No need for a winder, just wind them weekly (40-50) revolutions on the crown. Save the money for your next purchase! But if you must, orbita is a highly regarded brand.

I wouldn't have them on a winder. Honestly, even if it's an off chance, I've heard too many stories of watches having issues after sitting on them.

Shop on amazon or ebay, spent $100 for an 8+4 winder on ebay.

I agree with this sentiment; not something to invest a lot into but definitely nice to have especially if you have a number of watches. Those who don't like them should feel free not to use one. |

Wouldn't buy a winder... What for? I have many watches, included varying degrees of complications and don't see a need for this. Be well.

I have an Orbita Sparta. I put the watch I'm going to wear on it for a day, then pull the crown and set it. Just a habit after breaking a stem winding a watch (second hand Swiss Army). Not the fault of the watch. Just happened, but now I have the winder habit.

Total waste of money. Why would you want to have your watches in non-use constantly winded?

Would you leave your cars running around the clock?

You are aware there are some minor differences between watches and cars aren't you? |

Yup, sure do! Friction is friction, wear is wear.

I have a wolf watch winder, cant recommend them enough. Although they aren't cheap and unless you have multiple watches there is probably no need...

And ten years service interval for continual use is ten years. Not even close to the same issues are involved. Cars generate a lot of heat and are creating a much harsher environment of their components. The analogy just doesn't hold water. Sorry.

Okay I'm here to give my 2 cents since I was asked to give an opinion. I haven't read the responses given, since it's late and I plan on going to bed soon! I don't like winders. I don't like them for several reasons: 1) Most people assume they actually wind the watch... No, they keep the watch wound, which means it should still have a good amount of power reserve in order to maintain the power. I get plenty of customers complaining that their power reserve is too short "even though the watch was on the winder all day 3 days prior". 2) Cheap winders MAGNETIZE watches! The motors aren't insulated and cause the watches to start running erratically! I just had one two weeks ago, with a 2 y.o. DJII. A complete service of the movement was required. 3) Unless you're too old, or have some kind of medical condition that prevents you from having the feeling in your fingertips to wind the crown, I don't see a reason to need a winder. 4) I don't like the unnecessary wear it causes the movement. Unnecessary because you're putting wear on the watch while you're not even enjoying it. In the end, it's all up to you and I'm pretty sure all you TRF'ers know what to expect. I'm mostly having a hard time explaining to people who have absolutely no clue about the inner workings of a watch.

It's an BS, I've had watches on winders for nearly 10 years, not a problem to speak of. Never magnetized, haven't wore out, broke down, etc..
Many times I wear a different watch at night than I did during the day, I'd go crazy if I had to wind and set the watch every time I wanted to wear it.. I own Wolf Design winders, they have an 16 hour rest period every 24 hrs, so the watch does get to discharge its reserve. Most of the winder haters have never owned a winder.... |
