Daytona Movement Hairspring Info

I came across this article while surfing over yonder and it poses some interesting information on the why's and when's of the introduciton of the Parachrome hairspring to the Daytona lineup.

There's also some stuff on dial variations in the Daytona series.

Enjoy.

Very cool. Rolex does beta testing without telling anyone! I'm guessing they would have fixed it completely if there was any problems with it.

There is always a bit of industrial secrecy, and with it espionage as well, in hi-tech horology.

Some of the best kept secrets of the watch world would make for a thrilling who-dun-it novel.........

Do you think he faked the internal memo?

"Then, someone sent to me the below pictured internal Rolex two page document (they asked to remain anonymous) which answers the question."

If so, that is pretty slimy, but I'm asking myself, why would he do that?

No, the point I was going to make is that Mr. Holbrook, for some time, insisted that the original 4130's did not have a parachrome hairspring because they were not blue..

Mr. Dowling disagreed with this position, and this article seems to be an about face.

However, I thought better of this approach and edited my comments....you seem very quick to react and make a not-so-subtle accusation.

For what it's worth, I think the memo is legit because some of the phraseology is very familiar to me. I think bits and pieces of it are present in promotional material related to the hairspring.

Instead of an about-face could it be a reconciliatory article? I mean, in a way he's admitting he was wrong about the hairspring while Mr Dowling was right.

Play nice now guys

Meant nothing by it. I just didn't know is all. Typing makes things sometimes look like something else. I re-read it and I see what you mean.

No harm meant.
