Well guys after battling lung cancer for about 10 months, my aunt passed this morning. She was only 64.

She went quietly and without pain with her immediate family at her side.

She was a lifelong smoker and her friends are all smokers, so with the first hand and second hand smoke, its no surprise. Further, my grandmother (also a smoker) died of lung cancer.

We just had my cousin up visiting us a week ago and I feel kinda guilty that perhaps that visit took away time he could have spent with his mum. In any event, we are glad its over cuz shes had no quality of life since before xmas. Just two weeks ago they found the cancer had spread to her brain and she was slowly losing her motor skills and her mind via pressure the tumors were placing on her brain.

I will miss her.

My thoughts are with you John.
We are going through brain cancer with my mother right now. She had surgery last July and is expected to pass anyday.
She too was a smoker for the last 60 years.

Sorry for your loss, John. I had a favorite aunt pass away a couple of years ago from dementia. It was awful to see this vibrant person deteriorate until she became nothing more than a vegetable. Deepest sympathies to you and your family.

So get this... the day after my aunt's funeral, her estranged husband (my cousin's father) had a massive stroke (an aneurism seven years ago robbed him of his motor skills and his more sophisticated reasoning skills) and he is now brain dead. The family have disconnected everything and they're waiting for him to die, just as they did with my aunt a week ago.

He was a 'DNR' patient (i.e. DNR = Do Not Resusetate) but the paramedics goofed and brought him back. Needless to say, the family is distraught and very mad at the paramedics. They should have just let him go.

Bad times John.

Went through DNR with my father, who was allowed his wishes. Still not easy on his family though! To put it mildly... All the best, Nick
