No submariners in Paris!
Hey guys, fairly new here on the forums..
I'm on vacation in Paris for the week and I've called pretty much every authorized dealer in town and apparently no one has a SS submariner! This is so odd to me because every dealer in New York has a few at least. I asked for a SS Daytona for comparison and I literally got laughed at. Is this normal?! Anyone know where I'd be more likely to find one around Paris? I want to take advantage of the weak euro + VAT refund. |

Damn Frenchies!
I bet if you spoke French they would bring you a sub, BLNR, and SS Daytona on a silver platter.... |

Either everyone thought the same thing you did and took advance of the weak euro and VAT and they have non left.
Or they dont want to sell to americans.

it's the same in all AD in France, you have to wait two to three months to get one, even when you are french. |

Okay, let's break it down...
Sub No-Date 114060 sells for €6500. Global Blue refund rate for that amount is 12%. So €6500 x .88 = €5720 x 1.14 = US$ 6520 Sub Date 116610 sells for €7400. Global Blue refund rate for that amount is 12%. So €7400 x .88 = €6512 x 1.14 = US$ 7424 Unless you really want to commemorate your trip, you're better off waiting to get home and contact a trusted seller! If you can find a shop that uses a different VAT scheme where you get the whole amount back, you will obviously do alot better as French VAT is 20% but most dealers do use Global Blue or one of their competitors who keep a serious chunk of the refund as their fee. I forget the name of the street, but there are a bunch of dealers within a small area right near the Place de la Concorde if you want to check availability in person. Paris is one of my favorite cities so enjoy. |

You should try the area of "l'Opera & La Madeleine - Place Vendome" you ll find around 10 Rolex resellers in no more than 500 meters area on foot.
Bought my BLNR there last week and for sure you can get what you are looking for with a little smile .. Same in the U.S. Or any where else in the world, it helps! Ads where short on sports model here for a while , but where delivered at he beginning of october. Only a few sports model by ads I live in Paris half of the year and If you need any Rolex adresses will be glad to Help! Cheers |

Paris is the second most visited city on earth and it is associated with luxury. Demand is very high for Rolex.
When i was looking for a SubC last summer, I visited 5 shops. None was available, I enquired how many people would walk in per day to ask for a SubC. The average answer was 7. Same thing for any SS model. That means a thousand units could be sold each month. Even Rolex Place Vendome only gets 2 a month...

7424 brand new from an authorized dealer is really good considering they are 8500+tax around my parts. Can point in the direction of these trusted sellers? I also heard some ADs were offering the full 20% back on VAT. No discount on the watch though. Quote:

I think all this points to the idea that if you get enough enjoyment out of buying a watch while on vacation - do so. However, the uncertainty of the "savings" and any joy diminished by worrying about finding what you want and getting it home make make for buying at home a better way to go.

I am going to Paris in a few weeks, so I am glad to read this and save myself the lost time of trying to find a 114060! Now, can anyone recommend a good restaurant? I'll be in the 7th arrondissement but I am not afraid to walk and/or take the Metro.

I almost bought a Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue in Paris not too long ago.
Funny, I hear all the stories about the French not being friendly but I had a great time all over the country. The best food I have ever eaten on earth. Bar none. The duck is AWESOME. Of course there is a joke I heard. Whoever, loses the next war has too keep France..............LOL Did I mention I loved France.............. |
