Icon20 Flip a Z-Blue Milgauss for Blue Datejust II?

I'm on the fence about this one as they seem to be similar watches. Albeit, the Milgauss is a tad smaller at 40mm, but also a bit thicker vs the Datejust II. i consider both to be somewhat dressy pieces. The Datejust maybe a more versatile timepiece due to its date feature. I really have no use for the Milgauss' antimagnetic feature, and mainly bought for its looks. And on that matter, Rolex really hit the mark. The Z-Blue is really a stunning piece that grows on you each time you wear it. The color combinations work interestingly well with one another (a unique look). It's a nice chunky, compact piece. It's size and form hit the sweet spot between being large enough that it projects really nice wrist presence, but in a very nice compact package that's proportional. The Datejust II has also grown on me too, and I really like the date feature which sets it apart from the Milgauss. My only issue with it is that it can sometimes appear to be a disproportionately blown up version of the 36mm (which I love too, but can sometimes seem small on my wrist). I liken the Datejust II's proportions to be similar to a native iPhone app that's been magnified to fit an iPad, but not actually made to natively fit a iPad screen (if you know what I mean). But, again, it continues to grow on me and I really like it in the blue dial. I'm not likely to make this trade, but interested to read your thoughts on the comparison of the two (especially if you have both)? Lastly, I think the Milgauss may be a better collectible piece. Thanks.

Milgauss will be more collectible. For that reason alone, I'd keep it. Datejusts are cool, but not collectible. A bit passé. I think a Milgauss says a little more about the intelligence of the wearer and has way more personality.

Haha this is funny. For a tech geek like me this is exactly how I feel about the DJ2 but especially the smooth bezel model. The fluted bezel has grown on me quite a bit actually and I've come to like the oversized/inflated look of that configured watch.

Will this be your only watch?

I think the Milgauss is an awesome piece and somewhat iconic for Rolex. It obviously depends on you but I could see it along side a suit and tie, or t shirt and jeans.

If I had my choice of the two watches though I'd go with a DJ2. Just a little more versatile IMO. This is the one that's been on my radar...

Couldn't have said it better myself. The Milgauss is great if you want something that is different, unusual, a tad more sporty (though I agree both function well as dress pieces). The Milgauss is avant garde. The Datejust is a classic, representative of the brand, and those most versatile of all the Rolex watches.

That particular Datejust II will be the first Datejust II I pick up.

Keep the Milgauss, buy a used DJ, they are very affordable.

That Z-blue Milgauss is stunning - keep it EddieA1.
I totally agree with your comment "It's a nice chunky, compact piece. It's size and form hit the sweet spot between being large enough that it projects really nice wrist presence, but in a very nice compact package that's proportional." I too feel it has the nicest diameter:thickness ratio and possibly the shapeliest lugs on any modern Rolex.
Superb picture Wooster - a real beauty in natural light.

Enjoy them

Decision made - Milgauss stays! I'll get the Datejust II on a later occasion. Thanks team TRF!
