Footwear recommendations
I was looking through some of the shoe threads, but didn't want to start asking questions in a "your nikes and your watch" pic thread --
TL;DR recommend casual footwear for everyday wear, ~$200, stretch to $4-500 if absolutely necessary. Basically, all spring and summer I wear my Sperry boat shoes. I have a few pairs that I rotate, but it's generally what I wear 99% of the time. Now that it's getting cold here in PA again, I'm looking for another go-to. I have been considering a pair of boots - Red Wings or some Wolverine 100 mile boots, but I worry that my bad knees won't get the support I need. I'm also considering a decent pair of loafers / driving shoes. I've been recommended Gucci ones by someone that has been wearing them for 20 years. Those would probably be the most money I'd want to spend. I work at a startup, so dressing up is non-existent. What would go well with jeans and t-shirts or a polo every day? |

Foe everyday wear it's hard to beat Ecco or Mephisto. For loafers or driving shoes the brands Tod's, Bally and Ferragamo come to mind, however they are a bit more luxurious as prices reflect.
If you go boots and worry about comfort or support, try a pair of support soles. I recommend Superfeet. The best $40-50 you'll spend on footwear period. |

Life is too short to wear lousy shoes!
I vote for Allen Edmonds, Mephisto, Alden......they're made well & last forever, most of their models can be resoled

Ive got four or five pairs of Gucci loafers and drivers. I wear jeans most of the time and these go well with them http://www.gucci.com/us/en/pr/men/me...s/Mens-Drivers
Also, look at the ferragamo parigi, I wear those with jeans too. Live look:

Get yourself some Alden Indy boots and Alden Leasure Handsewn (LHS) penny loafers in chromexcel leather and you'll be all set. Both are in the $500 range.

You seem concerned about support in boots, from what I remember, Sperry Top Siders have almost zero support.
Not trying to offend, but I don't think I've seen anyone wearing Top Siders in years, completely out of style on the West Coast these days. |

I recommend Johnston and Murphy. I think it's a good balance between price and comfort. Not too expensive but really good quality.

Vibergs are excellent work fashion boots, but we are talking about $700.
Whites are in the price range your talking and they are known for their arch ease support. Alden Indies are Iconic, but I really hate the travelling tongue. Redwings are the better of the two between them and the 1ks. However they do take awhile to break in. Just don't pay retail for the 1ks they just aren't worth it, and they have some fairly terrible quality control lately. So make sure you are able to return them if necessary. There are so many different types to be had in the price range your talking, do have a good look around. Also there are some fairly nice boots from Carmina that can be had for this price. Checkout the Skoaktiebolaget website. I even encourage you to take a look at Enzo Bonafe. It just depends on the type of aesthetic you are looking for.

I also like Ferragamo a lot. Allen Edmonds, Cole Hahn, and Church's are nice, too. Those are the brands I buy the most.

Of course there is! These are just my two 'go tos' if you will... I've worn Tom Ford, Alden, Too Boot NY, Cole Haan, J&M, and many others. I found the fit I like in my 'go tos' and tend Rostock to them... Just me...👍 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Actually I was thinking more Alfred Sargent, Crockett and Jones, Churches, Carmina, and Enzo Bonafe. All of these are pretty much in this same price range. But I'm glad to hear you found the ones which work best for you.

Definitely some good ones there --- I tend to not look much at price or a specific name but more towards style and fit... If it looks good and fits well --- I'll take it.. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For a casual loafer/driver, I wear Allen Edmonds - style is "Boulder" loafer in buffalo leather
I've been gifted Italian loafers (Gucci, Prada, Ferragamo) before, but if you have knee trouble then many Italian loafer styles may lack the support you need The AE drivers are pretty supportive and at $200 relatively inexpensive. Here are mine after about 300 miles of walking |

Wolverine 1000 mile collection are the most comfortable shoes/boots out of the box Imhave ever purchased. The red wing heritage collection boots are the most durable boots I have ever purchased, but take 6 months to a year to break in. Wolverines can handle a walking vacation day 1.

I grew up in and still go back to Northampton a lot, where all the best shoes in the world are made.
I used to only buy shoes from the factory shops there and wear them all the time. I've had pretty much every brand - Church's, C&J, JL, EG, JW, Barker etc. Now I only wear them for work and the rest of the time it's something comfy, mainly North Face walking shoes which I can't recommend enough. |
