ALS Grande Lange 1 Moon Phase
I asked the question last month on the PP forum, which to choose, the ALS Grande 1 MP or the PP5205. Had the opportunity to try it on yesterday, it's absolutely gorgeous. Going to try on the PP again and hopefully come to a conclusion shortly.

Sizes are not in the same ballpark. The Lange is 41mm and wears like 42+. The 5205 is "40mm" but measures smaller and wears like a 37mm. The GL1 MP looks a bit big on your wrist - the 5205 might be just right (though thicker).

Two really great modern pieces. Just aesthetically, I like the prior Lange 1 MP a bit more, smaller size and the moonphase was a little more prominent. The 5205 is great, but I really dislike the two tone dials. The 5205 in rose gold with black dial is the one I'd target, and probably the one I take over the Lange.
It's funny, I think most people rank these brands equally now, but a good number of this forum dismissed ALS as significantly inferior, even just a few years ago, because of the associations with a conglomerate and a perceived short history. |

I'd have the 5205! Don't like the MP placement on the new GL1 MP.

Two beautiful choices and you can't go wrong with either. They wear quite differently as been mentioned. The grand Lange series wear large with an open dial and think and flat case. The 5205 has a much more eccentric case design with a lot of flair and is quite a bit thicker. It wears smaller than the 40mm listed but still packs quite a punch on the wrist.
I prefer the GL in platinum as it's more versatile and allows the moon phase to really pop but the RG looks great and probably is a more cohesive design. The 5205 looks great with the black dial, in rose or white gold. But a try on is necessary as they feel very different on the wrist. |

Both awesome I prefer my Lange 1 vs Grand Lange, but there are no losers in this discussion. Patek awesome as well.

My preference would be the 5205 R black dial. I owned the ALS and just didn't bond with it. You might want to check out future values if that makes a difference.

Both of those watches are some of my favorite that exist - period.
I would give ALS the slight edge. I think the details in the MP just take it up another notch.

Lange 1 MP would be my choice, best balanced of the 3 mentioned.

Relate to thus shared dilemma. Had decided to go with the PP5205 because I like moon phase watches. Then I saw the Langer 1 MP in platinum. Honestly as a more causal watch enthusist was not familiar with the A. Langer brand but recently got the opportunity to see the watches in person during a business trip. Langer 1 Grand MP immediately caught my attention. Very clean and non-cluttered design. The moon phase complication rendering is exceptional with intense blue multi-sized star field. One thing that bothered me about PP5205 is that it is very busy at 6 o'clock position especially between 4-7. Both are great watches but Langer 1 MP spoke to me so my first tier 1 watch ended up being a Langer.
