Pleasant surprise...

We've all had unpleasant surprises when buying a watch, but every now and then it works the other way.

Case in point: I just bought my second Rolex from DavidSW. This time I went with a used one, an OP 116000. On the site it said random serial, so I figure it's 2011-2014. It arrives today with an AD issued warranty card dated 2/15. Given that Rolex extended the warranty back to 2013 purchases this year, it's got more than 2 years of factory warranty remaining.

That was a nice surprise!

So I thought I'd put the question to the board, in honor of the occasion: what was your most pleasant surprise, watch-wise? Liked one more than you thought you would? Unexpected bonus? Yard sale find turns out to be really valuable?

I bought a 14060 off eBay once (I like to live on the edge....) and showed pics of watch only. It came in and was the Full kit! Both boxes, papers, books, and even anchor!

For me it was the coronet on the crown that lined up perfectly on an Explorer I had. I haven't been lucky in this regard since though.

Me, neither. Both of mine are in the "King waiting to be beheaded" position. Some guy on Watchuseek was bummed because his was exactly upside down. I hear that Rolex is fixing this, but I find it sort of charming.

That's a good one. Had that happen with an Omega. Blurry pic, barely any copy, no one bidding. I contacted the guy, got his info, threw an offer and waited anxiously. Turned out to be a barely used watch.

Biggest surprise - finding out from OP that warranty has been extended for 2013 forward purchases. I bought a ss sub a month before the new 5 year warranty went into effect. Great news! Do I have to do anything or is it automatic?

My understanding is that it was an automatic extension, for all watches purchased from July 2013, and was announced at Basil. Here's where I learned it:

Good news, eh?

Yes, thanks! Pretty sure I won't need it but great of rolex to offer an extension.

That would be a really pleasant surprise, Neil. That PP travel case looks like it cost the same as my Breitling.

When I bough a Milgauss from a small AD in Maryland after buying an Explorer II only a few months prior, they threw in a ball cap. As a guy who shaves his head, that hat stays in my car for emergency sunny days.

Amazing watch. It's good that they supply that pampering, protective case!
