Blemish on 12hr marker

I have very faint blemish on my SDc's 12 hour marker. I never noticed it because it was so faint and i actually thought it was because the lume didn't light up properly due to the minute hand covering the marker the few minutes I was outside the house in the Sun.

After it settled down, I thought it was the shadows or from a smudge on the crystal from having to contend with two young children. Wiping it clean I realised that it wasn't and the only way I can describe how it looks like is a tiny water stain. I don't think the other markers are affected. It's just the 12 o'clock marker.

It is so faint that I can't photograph it without a Macro lens, but I'm sure it would come up clearly under a loupe. I just thought I would share and see if anyone came across something like this with their markers on fairly newer rolexes.

Tomorrow I'll be sending the watch to the AD to see if they can sort it out, other wise it will need to go to the RSC in Singapore. Hoping it is just a minor thing, really love this watch and its tough for me to rotate out let alone not have it around.

My main concern is that if this was something that developed over the short time I had it, what could have caused it? I've used it in the pool and I'm hands on with the kids but I dont see how that could've caused whatever it was happen to that part of the watch?

For what it's worth, when I picked up the watch there was another SDc in the AD but I chose this one over the other because I saw a dust particle on the dial of the other watch. I suppose in hindsight a dust particle would have been easier to handle

Afraid loupes and high powered magnification can be a new Rolex owners worst enemy.

I found a speck under the glass of my brand new SDc. I had to comfort myself at least I got something extra from Rolex factory. Lol

that's brilliant. I'm so glad to be amongst good company

Peter, can't agree with you more. I don't think I'd own any watches if I brought a loupe around with me

If you want to find a flaw hard enough, it will be there

I made sure I don't look that close. If I can't see it with my naked eye then it's not there LOL.

Got side tracked!

A friend handed me the keys to their car for a while to cheer me up.

Never made it to the AD...

Guess I'll talk it over with some other watch enthusiasts here and see what they say before sending it off.

I've learned that the hard way. I had a piece of lint at the little 7min marker on my sub. The thought of not having the watch for a month kept me from sending it to rsc, but it was also my only rolex.

After a drink or two they all seem to have blurry smudges
- but now that you've found it - will you be able to wait until its first overhaul many years away?

I think even brand new Rolexes you buy freshly unpacked mey have some slight 'inclusions'. This is likely because afterall, these things are made by man!

I'll give you an example. My BLRO is 99% perfect to the naked eye. But eventually we will all wash and clean out treasured timepieces. When that happens, it's natural we check out each and every crevice when drying.

That's when all the so called flaws and marks come.

Despite my carefull nature, the caseback of the piece has some marks, either from the strap rubbing against in when putting the watch down or from my ring.

The back has some marks that seem visible only outside for example under the sun but can't be seen indoors.

Does it play on your mind, yeah sure. But if we keep focusing on it or heaven forbid try to fix it, we will likely lose the enjoyment of wearing the watch!

So what do I do, I try and tell myself that hey, so long as it's not a deep gouge visible from 3 feet away or a cracked crystal, then that's 'ok' and I can in a few years have RSC Polish it away.

Besides, by then my eyesight will be worse and it may even look alright by then.

BTW.... PCL is another issue. I'm battling that madness in my mind! I'm winning I think :). Now where the hell is my cape cod!!!!

I finally made it to the AD yesterday and they said it looks normal. The slight blemish I can spot they feel is just one of those minor things that can happen when it gets put together, and one fella mentioned that some people like it because its like 'Patina'.

I accept these things happen, but I disregard the whole patina comment. The chromalight like superluminova doesnt pick up Patina, from what I've seen anyways. They are happy to send it to the RSC, but they said it may result in changing the whole dial.

What do you guys think?

Should I just live with it for the time being and send it off when I can't put up with it?

Even if I do, they might just send it back and say that's normal and within their permissible range, I'll be without my beloved for a month.

I don't like the one-of-those-things/patina excuses. If it's noticeable, I would send it in.

Yes, I agree with you. I think I will do that after the festive season is over.
