This was a place I don't normally go to. They had a couple others locked up- Jeffersons reserve etc. they had my Bulleit 10-yo but I thought I'd give this a try.

I bought a bottle not long ago. I was not thrilled with it neat so now it's reserved for mixed drinks.

Michters isn't bad, if you can keep an eye out for michters 10 year single barrel or michters 20 year single barrel, both are fantastic pours that most people don't know about.

I paid way too much for 2015 Pappy and Van Winkle. Just showed up today.......

Michter's is OK, but nowhere near as good of a "sipper" as PVW or ORVW IMO. Using it in mixed drinks is good advice.

I've had this same bottle before. It was recommended by the staff at a liquor store in NYC. Tried it neat and didn't like it. But it's okay with a bit of water and even better with some ginger ale.

Michter's has a few expressions and they are a house in flux, in that their name has been sold and their bourbon until recently weren't their own. That said their higher-end expressions are some of the best bourbon's available because they came from premium sourced barrels and speculation is that some were even SW gems...

2013 M20, Celebration Sour Mash, and 25 year Rye are literally some of the best domestic whiskeys you could have purchased retail, and now you can't do that anymore.

watch now it's highly desirable. I recall buying my brother in law some yamazaki after reading about it on here a year or two ago. Now it's popular and costs double. He still hasn't opened it.

Weller's Special Reserve is just as close to the mash bill and done in same stills and charred barrels and warehouses...

You can also try for the Weller Antique 107 but it's a bit harsher. And getting harder to find.

Lastly, the Orphan Barrel Barterhouse 20 y.o. Is an option.

My family owns a chain of liquor stores and Pappy is not currently available to order, it was taken out of the liquor order book that the state provides us.

No to hijack the thread but I have always wondered, what is the "MSRP" of pappy? I know there are lots of types and the prices vary. But average? All I ever see in the web is the overinflated secondary market prices.

The local liquor store near my parents used to have a continuous supply of pappy. Back a few years ago, I was able to pop in and grab the 15 year for $135 whenever I wanted.

As for alternatives, Weller's is very similar and a much more accessible, better value.

I love Michter's as well, especially the toasted barrel. Really solid bourbon.
