New PAM655 1940 Radiomir with White dial

http://www.paneraicentral.com/sihh-2...aio-automatic/

They just announced a pre SIHH 2016 release. Still not the biggest fan of the white dial.

Not my cup of tea, but the lume , white dial and black numbers and hands go really well together. Not typically Panerai though imho..

Yeah it looks like they took the dial that is on the white watch in the PAM785 box set. Definitely some clean contrast even thought I'm not a fan of white dials myself.

It's not a bad look, but it is just another case of Panerai mixing and matching. Next it will be a white dial on a Luminor 1950, then they will add a hobnail dial, then they will add the pig on the dial.

I love Panerai, owned two. I just don't see the direction I suppose.

Fauxtina on white isn't my cup of tea, but otherwise super crisp and clean. Thanks for pointing.

One could say the same thing about the three Rolex in your stable... Same dial layout, same case style, same materials, just a few bits mixed together.

At least with Panerai there is some experimenting to go with the fundamental design language (carbotech, bronze, ceramic, composite, micro-rotors, etc).

To be clear, I'm not trying to diss Rolex or say Panerai is "better". Just trying to suggest that some criticism is unjustified.

I definitely see your point. All brands to some degree have a similar aesthetic within their lines. With Rolex the sport dial, Oyster case, and bracelet are near universal. I think the point I was trying to make is that Rolex isn't unveiling new pieces as remixes of old models. We've seen models get updates such as the Day Date. We've rarely seen a new dial get introduced in the case of the DSSD.

This particular 1940 might be a bad example in the sense that it's just a white dial, but we have seen a trend of Panerai broadly expanding the line with very subtle variation. Panerai is presenting this as something novel which I am arguing really isn't. I know that Panerai doesn't offer variation within reference numbers themselves. It's less about the look for me and more about how it's being presented. I think the excessive "limited editions" have hurt the brand. In 2012 we saw the SLC dial make a come back as a limited edition and shortly after offered on a regular production model. Since then it's been thrown into the 1940 case. I suppose I just feel that offering every possible dial in every possible case makes individual models less special even if they look great.

In the same vein, I wouldn't criticize anyone for owning 2 or 3 Luminors; they are great looking. Similarity isn't the issue so much as it is brand direction. Again just my opinion as a fan. I have owned and loved two Panerai.

I like white dial PAMs. I had a 251 that would go with ANY strap. It looked great with a baby blue or lime green strap!

I somehow don't like this one though. I think it would have been better off to have a cream dial vs the bright white with patina markers.

Also, I didn't know they made Rads with the Luminor type lugs and simple crown. I prefer the wire lugs and onion crown on Rads.
