Rolexes in the Movies...

I just caught the last hour of Ocean's 13 this weekend. Not that great a movie, but I had two Rolex sightings. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Brad Pitt had on a SS GMT IIc (you can see it whenever he is putting money in a slot machine), and then some bad guy who was timimg something had a white faced Explorer II on. Carry on.

Jake posted a pic posted of it here a while back, but although it was stated that Brad Pitt wore a YG GMT IIc, judging from the pic it could also be a TT GMT IIc or even an SS GMT IIc:

Also, he's wearing it on the wrong damn hand! (This will probably fuel debate, but I'm under the impression that a watch is ALWAYS to be worn on the left hand, regardless if you are left or right handed. Has anyone else heard this?).

Hmmm, too scared to say I'm agree with you
But as long as its comfortable for the person, no probs.
those who feel comfy wear it in right hand feels as we wear in left.
I'm not left handed, but I wear my first watch on my right hand (kindegarten)
but mom always put in my left until I get used to and here I am!

Nicholas Cage wears a FAKE Submariner in National Treasure I and II. I saw this on another WIS site, and one of the prop managers was on and told us this. Apparently, this is common practice, as budgets are limited.

Would not the powerful lights they use on set shown up the imperfections in a fake Rolex crystal.

If they are struggling with $6.5k on the budgets for a watch, I would hate to see what would happen if they overun on the shooting by a day or two.

Just a thought!

You catch a view of it early in the movie and it is pretty clearly an 18kt GMTIIc.

Leaving Las Vegas ( Nic Cage ) sold his 93 Daytona for 500.00 bucks! History channels "The Death of Edmund Fitzgerald", a bunch of divers wore a Sub!

Tom Sizemore in the film HEAT.

Possibly Val Kilmer in the same film and the guy who plays Draus.

I'm pretty sure Matthew McConaughey wore a Pepsi GMT in Failure to Launch (yes, I know a chick flick...but the wife loves it).

There was a thread on one of the forums, can't remember which one, that exhaustively listed the use of Rolex in the movies. It went on for pages and pages.

According to this thread and the conventional wisdom of other WIS's the Daytona worn by Uma Thurman was a fake also. Guess that happens alot in Hollywood these days. Makes you appreciate those shots of Steve McQueen and Redford, et al. wearing theirs in the "old days".

How about the original Submariner worn by Sean Connery in Dr. No? I'm such a fan of the the 007 franchise (Although I hate the new guy, what's his name??) that I will be searching the vintage classifieds for one...

In fact, that perticular watch remained throughout the Sean C. era, and it wasnt till 1995's Goldeneye that Omega took over the product placement. But then again, that Bond was a New Zealander driving a car that was made in Germany. The start of the decline.... :)

I always notice watches in movies, this might be a sickness guys and gals. I just saw Ocean's 13 on cable and noticed the same thing, I found myself pointing out the watches to my buddy, he probably wanted me to shut up and just watch it.

Brosnan was born in County Louth, Ireland I think.

You are right about the Connery Bond Films, also OHMSS and the first two Roger Moore films a SS Sub was used. When Tim Dalton took over he used his own SS Sub in the two films.

Sometimes it weirdly jumped to his left hand, sorta looked odd like they inverted/mirrored the image

Sean Connery wore a Submariner w/o Crown Guards and an alligator strap in his earlier movie and a nylon strap later on.

Timmothy Dalton was the last Bond to wear a Rolex.. I think they switched to Omega or something after.

My source

The new guys name is Daniel Craig and I thinks a pretty good Bond... I (among many others) rather like the new grittier feeling of the movies. Quantum of Solace Trailer just came out by the way.

Oceans 13

Brad Pitt is wearing a 18K GMT IIc, and Pacino is wearing a YG prince. It's a fact. Pitt is wearing a WG Day Date in Oceans 12, Rolex has product placement all over these films, it's a studio thing. Also notice samsung plugs throughout the film as well. Just to let you all know, I know the producer and director. Hope this helps.
