Torn on the 422, thoughts?
I had a PAM127 when they were first released, and loved the watch but had other Panerai's at the time and wore it very little. When prices went crazy I ended up selling it, though sadly well before they peaked. I think I sold it for around $10k. I've pared down my Panerai's to just an 111E that I bought new when that model was released, and only the historic models really appeal to me. I've been collecting Rolex's and a few Tudors and Omegas over the past three years, and sort of lost interest in Panerai's and haven't paid much attention to their recent stuff. I saw a 422 in a mall watch dealer and it sparked my interest again, as it reminds me so much of the 127 and the pricing seems somewhat reasonable. My biggest concern is that I'll get the watch and find that it's not a much different look than my 111, and ultimately the size will have me wearing the 111 much more than the 422. I've thought about selling the 111, but I've got it in for a full service and polish right now and after subtracting that cost from a reasonable value of the watch I think I'd rather just keep it.
Have any of you 422 owners had buyer's remorse of been sort of underwhelmed by the watch once you got it? Anyone with a 111 and 422 care to compare them, and which one they'd keep if they had to choose? If I decide to go with the 422, I'll probably buy used to mitigate my downside, but any thoughts there? They don't seem to be that hard to find in the secondary market. |

Love the 422, only my opinion but I think it's one of their best models. On vacation in NYC at the moment and I didn't have to think about which watch to take.

422 owner in NYC here. Got mine for 8500 bnib from a trusted dealer. Absolutely love the gold hands, power reserve and domed sapphire. Also really love the 372, my other choice at the time.

I believe this is the 422 right? If so, it's a beautiful watch. Thought of picking one up myself. Looking for the right deal.

The 47mm are a lot different than the 44mm. 372 with the plexi is on the rise, a better value IMO.

My brother has the 423 which is almost identical to the 422 except for the power reserve. I do have the 372. I personally tried both. I'd pick the 372 over for it's simplicity and weight side of the 422. Sapphire glass adds pretty hefty weight to the wrist on 47mm imo.

I really like the 422 and have been close to purchasing it several times. I owned a 194 several years ago and it was also 47mm but thicker due to it being a dive watch and the 287 which is a 45mm Rad. After being away for a while with just Rolex at 40 and 41mm I really noticed the size when I came back to try the watch on. I am a big guy with a wrist to match but did not like the size. Not too big but also not really as wearable as my other watches. I have also owned two Omega's in the last year, a 44.25 and 42mm Speedmaster's and neither had the fit I have grown accustomed too. The 422 is a beautiful watch but just not for me.

The 422 is the perfect combination of robustness and elegance. It is stunning, functional, yet very subtle. It doesn't call out for attention.
The best part is that it that holds its own against other models and watches. Whenever I visit a boutique and I put the 422 side by side, the 422 always stands out. I am frankly having a hard time choosing my next purchase because it has to be able to stand next to it and compete, not only in terms of design and functionality, but also price-point. Get the 422 - it is a thoroughbred of a Panerai. |

I prefer the 422 over 372. Love the addition of the sundial and sapphire crystal.

LOVE the 422!!! I recently acquired one, from DAVIDSW (Excellent and trusted seller btw), and I could not be happier!!! Can't go wrong with it!!! Love the hand wound mechanism, and the power reserve indicator on the see transparent case back. Phenomenal timepiece!!!
