My Rolex Story so Far

So, this is my Rolex story so far. I purchased new from an AD, a 16610 in December of 1997 right after I got my first decent paying job. This was still a tritium dialed watch. By 2006 that job had evaporated and I was working at a job for considerably less so I sold the watch for probably less than I should have. Today, a used, but nice condition 16610 with box and papers, would cost twice what I paid for my original one new. Arrg. That said, I started looking for a 16610 of around the same age, but I never really liked the Cyclops lens. I slowly started amending my search and am now thinking of a 14060 or 14060M. I briefly considered a 5512/5513 but they are out of reach for me at this point. So, it has come down to three variations. The 14060M with the updated movement but luminova dial, the 14060 again with luminova dial (I guess these two are so much the same that it really does not matter for me), or the 14060 with tritium dial. I like the tritium because it does get that nice creamy color with time and that is what my original watch had, but at this point it will not glow all that long and the tritium does seem to corrode the hands with time (as I have seen on some subs from the 60’s/70’s). The 14060/14060M with luminova will still glow, but not turn that nice cream color. Well, I guess I have some decisions to make and hopefully I will post what it is and photos sometime in the near future.

Welcome to the Forum!

I would buy the one in the best condition and priced accordingly. You will probably pay a premium for a Tritium 14060, however I would go with one with the nicest (thickest) case. Nobody knows what luminova will do in the future, and you'll have a watch with functional lume that will age with you gracefully.
