Daniel Roth Papillon RG - Last advice

Hello all,

I was expired by a friend of mine for "unconventional" watch after having Rolex Daytona TT, and he is having a Daniel Roth.

After searching for months, I am now being offered for DR Papillon RG limited **/110 with full box and papers at the price of less than new Rolex Sub C LN.

I need your advices whether I should pull the trigger or not. If yes, your ideas on accuracy, rarity, and value of this piece are highly appreciated! Photo of actual one I have tried.

Daniel Roth (and Gerald Genta) is part of Bvlgari now – has been for a good few years, if memory serves correctly.

I’m sure it’d be fairly rare, since it pre-dates the Bvlgari acquisition, being made circa 1999/2000 , to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of DR watches.
Value is always subjective and personal – but it won’t retain as much of its RRP like SS Rolex and PPs do.
Accuracy – probably within COSC specs, but not absolutely sure. Would be surprised though, if it wasn’t.

I have no practical advice or experience for you... BUT

I really love unique complications and that watch looks fantastic! I wish you luck with your decision.

I think value is low for a reason, and I definitely prefer a 116610 over this.

I don't have personal experience with Daniel Roth, but I know the Sub is a tank and Rolex is here to stay forever, and will service it for relatively little. You can trade the Rolex anywhere in the world. Can you say the same for Daniel Roth?

Ultimately, get what you like.

Thanks all!

I have followed my heart to go with Daniel Roth. My simple thinking is that, since I have no purpose for resale, I can buy Sub C later on but I cannot have chance for this special time piece, especially after reading articles about The Maitres!

Several years on, how have you enjoyed the Daniel Roth?

If you like it buy it, I don't care for it at all personally.
Keep in mind resale will be tough if you bore of it

Congrats OP, looks like a very fun and interesting timepiece. As you said, you can add the Sub later
