Are the new Bracelet Clasps secure?

I was looking at my 42mm Explorer-II with a Flip-Lock Bracelet.
I noticed inside the channel of the flat clasp, the holes don't go all the way through like the older bracelets did.
It seems like only two little indents are the only thing from losing your watch?
Through-holes seem sturdier....don't they?
Any negative experiences? (hope not!)
Thanks!

Never had an issue with the new clasp. Feels very secure and I have not had one ever pop open. Additionally the flip lock adds to the overal security preventing that happening as well.

I love the Flip-Lock too.....but what I'm talking about is the other end.....
Basically two little nibs holding the other end of the watch in place....
If it popped out of the two little indents, the band would slide right out of the channel wouldn't it?

I know I'm an OCD freak but I've spent my entire life working with Metals, Machining, etc.....
As much as I like the new Bracelets SOOOO much better.....
Maybe I'll have the Jeweler drill out both sides for a more (PERCEIVED) secure fit.....
Or maybe just put a dab of Loctite at the Pin/Detent area....
Or maybe just leave it alone?

Are the new Bracelet Clasps secure?

I've never heard of a problem with those clasps, and having own a few in my day I have never come across a problem myself. I wouldn't worry about it.

My guess is it should be alright. The newer clasps I'm sure were designed so the detents are made deep enough to securely hold on to the spring bars.

The only caveat would be ofcourse IF the clasp itself was bent so that it is not true to it's original shape. Then the spring bars may not be engaged as designed.

The newer clasps look to be thicker walled than the old style ones, maybe the the detents work out the same depth? I'd have thought they would have made extra sure that it was secure as part of the R&D!

I haven't heard of or seen a problem with a new watch, will be interesting to see how these pieces age though.

The pins don't go all through the holes on the old clasps. So not clear if there's really an advantage in terms of being more securely held in place. The holes may be more helpful in terms of removing/adjusting the bracelet than holding it together.

Never had an issue with the newer clasps on a GTMc, Subc, and 2 DSSDs. And all the other improvements in the clasps are really significant improvements.

Are the new Bracelet Clasps secure?

As to the new clasp's strength in holding up under stress, it is thicker, more rigid and very capable. Even in light of the hidden concave points that receive the adjuster pins.

The old style was harder to adjust for the average user. While it did allow the spring pins to be seen, it didn't afford more "holding power".

Hmm that's a really good point. Any stress test results on this before?

Me too but I have never heard of anyone on this forum reporting an issue. I'm sure the design was thoroughly tested and proven tough enough to be put into production.

Got ya, understand your point. I have never really thought about that either, to date I have never had an issue with that aspect or have heard anyone with a failure on that side of the clasp.

Yes, I agree. You can visually check that everything is locked in and secure.

Yep, the new clasp is a great update to the classic clasp - I've even put them on my 16610LV, 16660, and my BLNR!!

Yes they do. The bit that doesn't is the diver extension, which is supposed to pop out.

On a GMT2-C, I have mine on the last slot with the Easy Link open- should I worry? Or better just put back a link and close the EL to be safe?

The band is very laterally very tight even with the pins out. I don't think it could let loose unless it for twisted somehow

I'm not aware of a single complaint where the indent version "let loose". I'm pretty sure the new design is very sound (and looks much cleaner).

After the storm over Cyclops magnification, I would expect if this bracelet part was failing the forum would be littered with the pictures of dropped watches.
