Incoming! New to Panerai!

I've been looking for a diver to complete my collection, and while the obvious choice was the Sub, I already had an Explorer and GMTII, I wanted to add a bit of variety. I looked into the Black Bay, Seamaster, Aquatimer and Luminor. After weeks of staring at photos online, trying out different watches and reading up on the history of each watch I finally made my choice.

Anyway, here's my new (to me) PAM111.

I've always been critical with big watches in the past, always brushing it off as a trend. After a bit of research, I realized Panerai isn't a brand following a trend, they are actually big watches. I actually tried a 47mm to stay true to the tool diving instruments I see in old photos, however it just didn't work with my wrist size!

This is also my first watch with a clear case back which was the tie breaker between the PAM000 and the PAM111. Plus I needed the sweep seconds hand to keep myself from going crazy if the watch was running or not without putting the watch against my ear all the time.

The obligatory wrist shot...

I think my collection is complete: Dress (Reverso), Land (Explorer), Air (GMT), Space/Chrono (Speedy) and Sea (PAM).

I'm afraid this watch has started a strap craze in me because I can't stop looking at the different straps out there!

Thanks guys! By the way, is it normal that I can still wind the watch even when the crown guard is in locked position?

Its a big "NO" to wind the crown with the crown guard in locked position.

I'm sure it's a no, but should you be able to do it? Is that a sign that there is something wrong with the watch? Thanks.

Congrats. I entered the world of PAM with my 104 back in October. Wore it everyday until recently, just for a change went back to my Omega.

But the PAM will get plenty of wrist time going forward.

Wear in good health

When i bought my pam for first time, i did wind it with the crown guard on locked position on front of the AD staff, then the guy reprimanded me to open the guard.

Thanks everyone! I can't get this watch off my wrist, I usually don't wear watches at home, especially when I sleep, but I haven't taken it off since I got it except in the shower (I'm not sure how the leather strap does in the water, probably need to buy rubber for swimming.). It's an amazing watch with amazing visibility at night. Even after the lume has worn off, the large white dial markers are still visible in the dark. I thought thickness and size was going to be an issue for long term wear, but the wide, thick, cushy leather strap hugs my wrist and is more comfortable than any SS bracelet I own. I can't believe it took me this long to get into the world of Panerai.

I felt exactly the same when I got my first PAM!
