Okay, guys...so what's next?

It's a nice warm Tuesday morning here in Auckland...just past 6 am and I was wondering what to post next when I thought of this one.

2006 has just begun and we still have more than 10 months to go. So have any of you made some plans for your next watch? And, if so, which one?

Me? Hmmm......got two really nice ones at present. I'm so thrilled at finally reacquiring my ultimate Rolex, that I haven't given Yammy any wrist time at all. Subby has been on virtually since the day (8th Feb.) I got him.

No flippin' (please believe me ) and probably no adding in this year. Zemina won't be too happy. I guess I'm most comfortable with TWO watches and honestly as long as I keep seeing the "R" word on my wrist, I'm happy!

How about YOU? Any forward plans?

Cheers - JJ

See? It's just a matter of time before that YM goes the way of the Dodo, to be replaced with a TT Sub, or perhaps... an LV. Yep, I say JJ will have a 16610 AND a 16610LV at the same time.... for a while.

Don't be silly, Johnny! I am NOT going to get rid of Yammy, but even assuming I did...remember, it's only an assumption, why on earth would I get myself landed with TWO similar looking watches.

IF...a BIG FAT IF...I got rid of the YM (which I won't under threat of dire consequences from Zemina and the 2 girls) it would ONLY be for a TT BLUE SUB - no other!!

Cheers - JJ

You already have two similar watches, a 16610 and a YM. Sure one is TT, but they have the identical movement and both have a rotating bezel.

Okay, so the TT YM is going to go in place of a TT sub. It's gotta be what, almost nine months since JJ bought the YM. In the past four years he hasn't had any watch more than this... so it's only a matter of time. Heaven forbid JJ actually have to take a watch in for service.

Now that's more like it!

Number two!!!!

BTW JJ, I know you too well. One of your two watches will go before June. I just haven't figured out which one yet. But since you've had the YM so long (ahem) I'm guessing it'll get flipped for a BNIB TT Blue sub, so you'll have a new TT watch again.

I paid almost NZ$10,000 (US$7,000) for the TT YM brand new. I know it was a good deal, but today if I try to sell it, I might be lucky to get NZ$7,000 tops...absolute tops! Believe me when I say, I'm in no financial position to lose 3 grand over a watch. And, remember, I would still have to fork out another 2 grand or so for a brand new TT Sub (assuming I even got 7 grand for the YM in the first place!).

Johnny, you're a terrible influence!! My Zemina thinks the world of you (always did!), but if she reads all this about the YM, she'll have to do an about turn!!

No, Johnny, the YM stays and so does the Subby....and how do I convince you - THAT'S FINAL!!

I broke the news to my wife about adding yet another watch. She didn't kill me, so that is good.
I have been in contact with my AD already or
Since I have 2 Rollies, and only 1 Pam, I think Pam needs a sister.
At least that's the way I'm leaning now.
I might put the deposit down now, and hopefully either the PAM000 or PAM005 shows up before my birthday. That way Cindy can get it for me
Wishfull thinking on my part anyway.

Why "sister"? PAM needs a partner!! Can I be Pam's partner?

John, go for a 111 instead of the 005. I know the five has the logo on the dial, but the 111 is COSC, if that means anything. Just my two cents. Then you'd have a white and a black version!

Or, look into getting a 93 (ti, power reserve and a BLUE dial) .

JJ, I just read between the lines and report my findings. You know the YM's days are numbered. Admit it and that's half the battle.

Very good point about the 111. Also on my radar would be the 104.
What is one to do????

At such times of indecisions, it's not a bad idea to take the wifey along. She can usually come up with a good decision!!

Well, in all fairness to that watch, the ONLY two things that are going against it are the spotted strap and that silly spotted dial.

Lose that ugly dial, replace it with a gold one; then lose that fugly strap and slap on the original YG bracelet....and you have a winner....a lot of "bling-bling", but a winner nevertheless!!

Maybe Chip can come with a photoshop of my imagination!!

The 104 is a close second to me after the holy grail, the 111. It's just the date window puts me off a tad. An unnecessary complication on a pure, uncluttered dial. However... it IS automatic, although I do like the allure of a manual wind too. \

What to do? Buy both... over time.

COSC is all relative, my fiver kept just as good time as my 111. It is more if you want the exhibition back or the logo on the dial. The fiver is closer to the original, but both are great watches.

JJ, the only way to prove ALL of us wrong, yes all of us, is to hold on to them or just stop proclaiming these silly things. You gotta admit, the track record is not great and that is all we are basing this off of.

John, weigh the things you must have in a watch before choosing. You have a great WDL Marina, if you want a date, etc.. get the 104, but if you can deal with the simplicity, the BASE would be a great addition, either the 000 or 112.

Aren't these great choices to have.

I'm struggling between whether to buy a black Explorer II or a Submariner. I've had the Sub, so I'd like something different, and the ExpII is sooo cool; but then again Yachty1982(my friend, jeweler, and fellow watch nut! ) has a really great price on a Sub coming in this week. I just don't know what to do. I might just to hell with the both of them and get something I've had my greedy little eye on for about two months now: IWC AMG Ingeniuer (chrono w/ fiber strap). They're all around the same price, so I'm totally confused!

Man, I feel your pain! PAM or Rollie??!! I've had 3 Rolexes(none in the collection now, though) and I wanted to get another one last month. I almost bought another Sub, but wound up getting a Panerai (I got the PAM 86). It might be a good idea to even the collection out, you know? After all, the Rollies have each other, but what about your poor, lonely Panerai? Good luck!!!

I'm sorry to keep replying, but I just noticed the Panerais that you were considering. You HAVE to get the Panerai Logo; those watches are so beautiful!! Do it. Run to your AD now. Give him the $$. Go home and sleep easily knowing that you have a serious Panerai on the way!!!
