PAM 590 for First Panerai?

I have been collecting Rolex for some time now, but have slowly developed the "Panerai itch". I have been doing some research on the PAM 590 and it seems to speak to me. I have noticed that the watch had a lot of value when it first came out, but has since come down quite a bit in the secondary market. What is the verdict on the PAM 590?

I feel like all PAM lose there value quiet a bit in the secondary market. I would buy used and save yourself the value drop. But I love the Panerai watch. My 359 was my first watch and still love it.

Many new releases go through a similar value transition with Panerai.

The 590 is a nice piece if you want a starter since it's not a large production run. Some people would rather have a sandwich dial as opposed to a painted one like on this one.

Prices did drop a bit this year with Richemont lowering prices on a lot of their brands, so that trickles down to the secondary market of course.

I think you will enjoy the 590.

I think one's first Panerai should be a 44mm Luminor From there, you need to decide wind vs auto, sandwich vs painted vs sausage and which complications - base, marina (seconds), gmt, power reserve, etc.

I think the 590 is a great PAM (I have one); I like its sausage dial, the 8-day movement only needs one wind per week and I like the balance in the dial (not many PAMs have the 8-day inscription on it). Icing on the cake is that they can be had for $4500-$5000 on the pre-owned market.

It can certainly be had for even less on the pre-owned market. I really like the 'sausage' dial here - very different from the painted dial - this is where paint is put into etches in the dial so the surface is fairly flat.

Other painted dials (like the 88) have the paint on top of the dial.
