Advice: Audemars Diver to buy or not to buy?

Hey guys,

Recently I asked you about a Audemars Diver and you prevented me from making an expensive mistake.

Now an Audemars Diver is for sale at a dealer next to me with a solid reputation. It says that it was serviced at WEMPE (one of the largest jeweler chains here in Germany).

Can you tell me if this Diver is ok and if the service was made properly (I'm little concerned that it wasn't serviced at Audemars):

Fear not, Wempe have brand trained service technicians, and you’ll have the same 2 year guarantee as you would if done by AP themselves, iirc.
That said, you should perhaps also consider the limited edition Scuba models made by AP specifically for Wempe.

If you like the AP diver than get it. Nothing to think about it's a great watch. I prefer the 15400 for the same price but that's just me. If you want something a little more sporty go with the diver. If you want something a little more dressy go with the 15400. But both will do the job as a daily wear.

It isn’t about you and what you like – he’s asking if there’s anything untoward about the ROO linked, not if he should be considering a different RO entirely!
Did you just make up your own question so you could post your answer, in the hope it was vaguely relevant to the topic at hand?

How is that any different than you suggesting the Scuba??

OP have you considered trusted sellers here on TRF? I'd go for a LNIB rather than a post serviced AP especially if you have any doubts whatsoever about the seller

He has 1800 posts in just a couple months - I think we know the answer to that one. I love the engagement here - but his flooding of every thread with poor grammar, spelling, and off-topic content is taxing on my nerves.

Back on topic, I think that on that particular watch, I'd wonder why the servicing wasn't done at APSC, too.

They're nice pieces but I prefer without numerals and with clear back, would definitely take the new SS diver if I wanted a SS diver watch

OP, I'm sure that seller is A-OK. However...

That Diver seems quite soft in it's case angles. They may have polished it in-house, and then it's rarely done right.

Remember, an AP should have sharp angles and lines. Not soft ones. A soft AP is a "ruined" AP IMHO.

But surely this is a safe watch to buy, besides the polishing done wrong.

Andreas is 100% right, a correctly polished watch looses a lot of the interest for me, I prefer scratches but the watch integrity to be preserved, but a badly polished one is a wasted watch IMO good for a bezel and case change, and would disgust me so that I wouldn't be able to wear it, especially when it comes to watches with polished/brushed surfaces like on RO and ROO models, that's really a NO GO for me...

I love the AP diver. I think the I series has a new movement as well. That's the one I'd go for.

I got mine from Takuya. He seems to have a lot of AP's BNIB with fair pricing. I'd definitely recommend him.

No change in movement for 15710, just the display caseback – otherwise the same as what’s in the 15703.
Changed the dial from glossy to matte, as well as stamped tapisserie.

When I spoke with Wempe London previously, about the servicing cost of a GO, for a member on another forum, I came away with the understanding that they had trained watch technicians on-site.
Today’s call revealed that only quartz watch battery replacement is undertaken, and all other watches go to their respective manufacturer for servicing/repair.

Unless that’s different in Germany, where some of the Wempe boutiques do have trained watch technicians (which may explain the discrepancy), then the watch would’ve been dealt with by AP themselves.

A moot point, seeing as it’s no longer listed, but worth clarifying for future reference.

same movement but some 'issues' have been corrected. well documented in the 15710ST articles
