It's more that nothing looks wrong than what looks right. Also the serial number more or less corresponds with the I.68 caseback stamp.

These guys know what they're doing. Probably a whole lot better than anyone else you will find. With that being said, if they say it's legit it is. I wouldn't ask for more responses once you've already been given an answer.

The band is aftermarket which isn't abnormal for watches of this vintage. When David and Andy and Adam tell ya it's good, then you have your answer. These guys see more Rolex's in a week than you or I will in the next year. You don't need any more input.

Hi, so I ended up purchasing the watch and bringing it into an authorized dealer (Finks Jewelers) and was told that some parts on the watch weren't authentic (dial, some of the gears; he said the red gears didn't correspond with the date of the watch which is 1968, the crystal, and maybe the bezel. Do you believe that he is correct? I can return the watch, but I'm not sure what to do.

Largely depends on what you spent? If you got it for cheap, then don't fret it......close it up, polish it a little and wear it proud. The watch is real and there's zero collectibility about this watch, so having a few aftermarket parts isn't gonna really matter. Give us a ballpark on what ya paid and that will help make the call on what to do.

2000 is on the high side for an old Date w/ aftermarket bracelet. (not Datejust btw).

If you are at all worried, I'd return it. I think you should be able to find and old DJ for around that price, which wouldn't have any authenticity issues.

Unless you are really fixed on this one, in which case what everybody has said is correct. No particular collectible value, slightly on high side, but still a good everyday wear watch.

I guess the main reasoning behind my worries on the watch is that the person I bought it from repaired the watch, but I don't know if the parts he used were genuine Rolex parts. The guy I bought it from is a watchmaker, and he sent me pictures of the parts he works on his Rolexes with. Do they seem to be authentic? Thanks.

Aside from slightly overpaying, you've got nothing to worry about. As your first Rolex purchase it will certainly lead to more, so if it were me I'd stop worrying and simply wear it. Over time you'll most likely start looking for your next acquisition and you can learn from your first purchase to make the second one a more enjoyable event. The watch you have will always be worth something and might be a nice one to hand down to someone in time. It would also look good on a leather strap. You are fine.

The year is 1968 on the watch, and the seller told me it's an aftermarket bracelet. hunterp27, I understand what you're saying and I do love the watch and plan on wearing it. However, it would be nice to know if the parts the seller used on it (besides the band) were genuine. Can anyone tell from the photos if the parts he used were genuine Rolex parts? Thanks again.

The replacement parts are authentic. It's impossible to tell from photos if these parts are authentic without removing them. As for the dial this is why we ask for close ups of the text to check for resprayed dials and your photos were blurry.

yes, now i can see the text it looks resprayed, probably a real plate under there and done in quite a rare colour and style that is not quite correct in style now you see it close up, this style was available during the correct period of the watches production to confuse matters. As for the bezel there is no way to tell looking at the outside of the watch, they were unmarked and just a polished steel ring, if you remove it you may be able to tell if it aftermarket

Resprayed means refinished. Original/authentic dial simply redone......
