Ladies Datejust diamond bezel is very loose
All I can say is
I purchased a 26mm Datejust and a 1.20 ctw diamond bezel (aftermarket) from Ebay for my wife for Christmas, and the bezel is going to have to be sent back. After spending $120.00 out of pocket which I cannot get back to have the diamonds checked to ensure they were real (which my jeweler said one is fake, though the seller says there is no way that is possible) I installed the bezel today only to find out that it is too loose, water resistance will be severely compromised with this bezel on (to the point I wouldn't wash my hands wearing it) and it can be pulled off (glass included) by hand rather easily. I am afraid if my wife wears this watch with this bezel the crystal and $600.00 bezel will fall off after a few days, thus we are sending it back. Basically, I bought a piece of junk.. But before I send it back in utter disappointment, I wanted to ask if all aftermarket bezels fit this way? I see 100's upon 100's of ladies Datejust's on Ebay with aftermarket diamond bezels..is this a common problem? I knew water resistance would potentially be diminished with this bezel, but this is ridiculous. Pulling up on the side of the bezel with what I consider to be very minimal effort sends the crystal and bezel popping off exposing the dial to the elements. |

No, generally they fit well. That was a poorly made one, not to proper spec.

I personally wouldn't put a non-Rolex factory part on my Rolex. But this isn't my watch, it's my wife's watch. I posted a couple other threads the last month about buying a watch with a diamond bezel. Rolex doesn't offer a factory diamond bezel for this watch, do they? If they did, I might have considered a factory part
My wife isn't a Rolex person (though she loves her new watch and I think I've converted her and gotten her to appreciate the brand) and isn't necessarily a watch person either. She does like the functionality of having a wristwatch, and loves "pretty diamonds" but for her, she wanted a nice piece of jewelry that could tell time, so diamonds and shiny stuff was all she cared about. She originally wanted a Tag Heuer watch with a diamond bezel. I opted to go for Rolex instead seeing as how I am a fan of Rolex, I feel the Datejust is far superior to what she wanted (and not much more money) and I feel she will appreciate the Rolex more than a Tag. I was originally looking for a Datejust with a diamond bezel already installed, but was finding that they all were either way overpriced, or had aftermarket or modified dials or aftermarket crystals and bands or didn't include boxes and papers, which was a no go for me. Basically, I wanted a 100% factory Rolex Datejust with box and manuals (minimum) and an aftermarket diamond bezel to go on it as an added bonus for her, so I started looking at 100% original Datejusts, and opted to put my own bezel on it knowing that I could always take it off and sell it later bringing the watch back to factory spec with little effort. Alas, here we are. Unfortunately I just went with an unreliable seller who is marketing inferior products. Sorry, wasn't sure if that was a rhetorical question or not, but that's my honest, possibly tl;dr answer Quote:
1. I really wanted my wife to have a diamond bezel on her watch, as I am afraid she will be unhappy or disappointed with it without all the diamonds and 2. I dumped (wasted) $120 getting this thing authenticated, and it doesn't even fit. This is the most annoying part, because I hate wasting money. The seller has accepted my refund and sent me a prepaid shipping label so I don't have to pay return shipping. I am out $120 which is a little frustrating, but I got a good deal on the Datejust ($2700 shipped) so I am able to take a small loss on the bezel IMHO. I will include the sellers information below, just so people are aware and don't make the same mistake I did. For now, my wife has stated she wants to wear the Rolex without a diamond bezel, and maybe later down the road we can have a diamond bezel custom made. As long as she is happy with it as it is, and I get my $600.00 back, I am not going to cry about the incident Ebay username: asaardiamonds Ebay storefront: http://www.ebay.com/usr/asaardiamond...72.m2749.l2754 |

OP, I agree with not going with an aftermarket bezel only from the perspective that Rolex will not touch the watch with it on.
That said, there are many very nicely made aftermarket ones that are far superior to Rolex in quality as compared to price (value). You can always have an original standard bezel put aside so in the event you need to service the watch, it's a quick change you can do yourself. A jeweler I deal with in Boca Raton, FL that is very reputable and has a stellar feedback history on eBay is Diamonds International East. Ask for Ken. For about half the price of an original, he will make you a stellar one. I recently talked to him about one for my wife for our anniversary but there were a few other items on her wish list that were way ahead of this. |
