Resistance was futile... Incoming

Never say never, I suppose. After I found this Day Date 40 in a Tokyo shop today, I simply had to have it (unfortunately at the expense of my Day Date II). In hindsight, I guess it was inevitable.

I'm downsizing my collection, pardon the pun, as I approach retirement. For some reason, I see a Day Date as a necessary watch for my future. If I could have justified also keeping the Day Date II, I would have done so since I really loved the watch; but it would have been very selfish of me to do so. My son is still in college. In any event, I guess this silver dial Day Date 40 just "sang to me" a way other DD 40 configurations hadn't and it pushed me over the edge. This is a very comfortable watch and I have to admit that it is a better fit on my wrist.

Interestingly, the shop also had a DD 40 with a champagne stick dial like on the older Day Dates.

I'll post some better photos later. These iPhone photos are not very well focused or staged. Others have posted far better pictures of this particular DD 40 configuration.

This one was a lot nicer than it looks in this photo.
