What To Expect From A Jeweler re Rolex Repair

I have had my Rolex for 29 years. Recently it has started stopping, it will start again upon rewinding...but after it did it 4 times in one month I decided it needing cleaning and lubing. I used to live in a large city where I had a jeweler I trusted but I don't anymore. I'm concerned about leaving such an expensive piece of jewelry at a store I'm unfamiliar with. What kind of receipt is normal for the jeweler to give me when I turn my watch over to them?

yeah send it to a RSC. It will be done right and you don't have to worry about not getting your watch back. What kind of watch is it?

Bingo.
Send it to NYC via registered mail and no worries whatsoever.
Contact them so they can provide you a mailing package or you can make your own, using brown paper, and brown wired tape requiring wetting.

Jewelers don't work on watches, you need a watchmaker.. Several are members here and you could send your watch by Registered Mail to them for service.

Many good Authorized Dealers employ a watchmaker or have recommendations for a watchmaker with a proper Rolex account.

Deal with reputable shop and they will give you a proper estimate and receipt for your watch. Make sure you know if they are sending it out or doing the work in-house.

My vote is for ABCwatchwerks in LA.

Soon as I bought my explorer ii, I sent it right out to them to have stuff done.

You are in Georgia? Send it to Rik Dietel in Seminole,Florida. Time Care Inc.
He is a CW21 indy watchmaker with Rolex parts account. Over 30plus years as a watchmaker. Many of us here use Rik. Does fantastic work.

Depending on where in GA you are, Gary Wilson of Wilson Watch does good work and has a Rolex parts account.

Receipt or not...I wouldn't leave my watch with anyone unless I felt 100% comfortable with them.

Send it to RSC and you won't have anything to worry about. You'll have piece of mind and your Rolex will look like new upon return. Good luck.

If in the Augusta area go to Windsor Jewelers, they are a really good Rolex AD with Rolex trained watchmakers. Just across from Augusta National Golf Club.

If you have had that watch for 29 years I'm guessing there is some attachment to the watch. If you want to keep it original I would not send it to an RSC. They will repair it their way not your way. Their goal is to make it look original even if they have to replace the dial, crystal, polish, etc. You may just want to clean it, replace the gaskets, lube it etc. If you want control over the repair send it to one of the independent watchmakers mentioned above.

Thanks for all the replies. I have noted the two names of Rik and Wilson. My husband want to take it to a watch repairman in Augusta who has been in business for over 30 years and works on Rolexes. He did a beautiful job on a grandfather clock of ours several years ago. My concern is because the watch is gold and has a diamond face and bezel and because its not insured as my husband doesn't believe in insurance for things you can afford to replace. Haven't ever had to put that to the test....

I'll let you know what I decide. Thanks again for your help.

The watchmakers mentioned on this forum see far more valuable watches all day long. Certainly they would have a whole lot more to lose than to gain by stealing the watch. When you send the watch you will provide the model and serial number and ship it registered mail or ParcelPro and should insure it properly for its replacement value.

If you hand carry it to the guy in GA take pictures of the serial number and model number (inside the end links on the watch case) and get a written receipt. If you are that paranoid, have him remove the watch back for you and take a pic of the movement as well.

I agree. Rik is the man!
Otherwise, I'd only trust my watches with another a certified Rolex technician with parts account.
