The worst F..ing AP AD EVER!!!!!!

Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a titanium Grey themes ROO on a bracelet. I had seen some pics of this watch on the forum with a rubber band. I was luck enough to find a WIS on this forum who sold me his brand new AP OEM rubber band with a titanium buckle and 4 titanium plots. He told me that he checked with AP and they told him it would fit my watch.

I went to my local AP AD and he told me that it would not work. I explained the above to him and he stated that the seller most likely lied to me but he would have his watch guy look at it. He stated that it was impossible to do but that he had bands and buckles that would work.

It just happened that the next day I was going to be in Miami and I decided to see what the AP boutique in Bal Harbor would say. It took them about 10 minutes to instal the new band. I know not all AD's are like this but I will never ever buy anything from This guy again. He will lose a ton of business because of the shady way he operates.

Sorry guys just needed to vent!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d hardly consider what the dealer said as nomination for the “…king worst AP AD ever”.
On the face of it, it looks like you’re blowing things way out of proportion.

When you get the point of parting with $50K odd on a watch, only to have 3 examples all complete failures (from a QC pov), then you’ll have something worthy to rant and rave about!
This is nothing more than run-of-the-mill annoyance.

It's not that bad, and you didn't fall for it (assuming they were trying to trick you and were not just plain ignorant) ... Would have been worse if they would have scratched your watch or something like that ...

The boutique in Bal Harbour is excellent.

So you go to an independent AP dealer with a watch and strap you didn't buy from them and expect them to install it for you?

Its not the worst thing ive ever heard an AD do but they get mad when you dont buy from them and then ask them to do stuff for a watch not sold by them. Its something they do i wouldnt take to much offense to it. Just do your research and get what you need done. If they wont do it, do it somewhere else. Im assuming you wont be buying anything from them anymore. Thats there lose.

The only place i would recommend in LA is (Andrew) at Polacheck’s Jewelers in Calabasas. They are a AD with rolex, PP, Bretiling, Cartier. He really knows his stuff and I've had multiple people on this forum give great reviews about him. So i had to check it out when i wanted my watch resized. He truly is the best.

Sorry, english isn't my first language. I speak and write 4 languages. Cant get them all perfect. I just saying that in general im not impressed on the knowledge of AD associates and thats probably the main reason i dont like to buy from them. If i was going to pay almost full price i want to at least have someone that knows more about the watch than i do. If i have to explain to an AD sales person that the 16618 and 116618 wears differently even though they are the same diameter it makes me worried. As the lugs are thicker on one "super case". Would rather do my own research and save the money and buy from a seller on here.

Apologies for not appreciating English isn’t your native tongue – but then again, for many whom it is, their/there/they’re and then/than seems to also be problematic.
Congrats on the ability to speak/write 4 languages, btw – I wish I could.

In regards to Sales Advisors/Assistants, you expect too much of them.
Yes, it’s nice if they’re conversant with the product you’re asking them to let you see, but you’ve got to appreciate they have a multitude of models and brands to keep tabs on, not to mention jewellery too.

If you know more, either impart that info on to the salesperson or just smile and nod politely.
There’s no problem in knowing more about specific models than they do – you’re the one having spent the time researching it fully, using the AD to get hands-on with it, and then deciding if it’s the one to go for.
If the salesperson could afford to spend the same amount of time doing likewise, then they’d be as clued up as you would – but sales isn’t about knowing the technical merits of each model, but listening to what the typical non-WIS customer is looking for, and suggesting which ones they carry, would be suitable solutions, and offering to let them try the watches on, to see if the customer agrees.

Totally understand where your coming from. But to my experience they even get mad when you look around and want to try stuff on. Ive walked into an AD once and asked if they had a DSSD D. They said yes, she said it was in the case next to her I walked over there to look. She walks over expecting her to take it out. After a pause of her just standing there. I said can I see it. She looks down points at it through the glass and says you can see it. I was shocked by that response.

My point is I've never had a good experience at an AD. Not saying everyone has bad experiences. Car dealer are expected to know a lot more than AD for what I'm used to and there around the same price. I guess an AD associate is good enough for an impulsive buy type of customer.

So there's nothing an AD experience would do for me to only get 10% off retail price. Would rather get 30% off and not even have to leave my house.

After hearing this story of the OP situation. I'm not surprised.
