Question about cars - input requested!!
So, I have the opportunity to buy a 2015 991 GTS or a 2013 Audi R8 V10....similar mileage (about 5,000) and the R8 is about 10k less....which would you choose and why? No accidents, both 100% clean and under full dealer warranty.
Thanks in advance guys!!

I would choose the 991 the same reason I would choose a Submariner over Tudor Black Bay.
While they are similar in many ways, they are very different and you simply cannot find a substitute for the real deal. The R8 is an unbelievable machine and it is absolutely stunning. It is probably more breathtaking in terms of aesthetics than the 991 but the soul and the DNA of the Porsche is much more appealing to me. When I think of the 991 I think of the car of my dreams and the R8 is just a really cool car.

I would probably pick up the Audi. It has awesome looks and performance.
At least in most cities the USA, you don't see one on every corner. Dubai and Bahrain is a super car candy store so that may not be a consideration. Pics when you pull the trigger |

Also consider the attention factor. The Porsche is slightly more under the radar than the Audi. Also, a little more space in the Porsche; you never know (shopping trips etc).

I'd go with the newer car, the 991.
I've had both Audi (but not R8) and Porsche. My personal experience is a new Audi is nice, but as it ages, not so fun. As such, I ended up trading them at an average of 23K miles. My experience with Porsche has been fun from new purchase to day sold or traded for the next car. Good luck with whichever car you choose. |

Depends on what you are looking for. They both shine in spirited driving though the r8 will have the edge. Ton of 991's on the street and less r8's. The 991 will be a better daily driver than the r8, though the r8 is not bad. A good friend of mine had a r8 for a short time and daily drove it. He said it was fine but he did say he found him self getting more tired while driving (He would make frequent trips from LA to LV). You will definitely draw a lot more attention with the r8 than the 991. Some people like that and some don't. I would valet a 991 and not an r8. Valet's will charge you for curb side parking in the r8 :) My head would choose the 991 since it is basically brand new and will carry warranty. My heart would choose the r8. Head and heart would choose a 24 month lease since I know I can't stay in a car too long :) In the end both machines are amazing and would put a smile on your face for a long time.

I've driven both on the street and on the F1 circuit in Bahrain. Of the 2, the 991 handles much better and feels more connected to the track....on the road both are on the same footing.
With both having an extended warranty it's really a coin toss.....I was hoping for a 911R - think of a 991 Turbo body, with current GT3 engine, 7-speed manual tranny, and no huge rear wing (likely to be announced at Geneva in March, but with only 600 likely to be produced, prob won't get a shot).

I'd do the R8. At least you know it's top of the line from Audi's offerings. GTS is nice but I'm about power, so would go back to a turbo (my last made 700hp). Or GT series for balanced power/handling.
The R8 should also depreciate a bit slower...I don't see any reason why a GTS would hold value. Of course the R8 also looks and sounds better, which also helps with the driving experience. If you said R8 vs 991 Turbo, that would be a different discussion. |

Do you have another car?
If this is your only car have you considered an S550 or S63 Coupe? Extreme comfort, speed, exhaust note, and sexy lines. Resale value aside, I would take the S in a heartbeats over the other two cars. (Also AMG GT is a BLAST to drive and is more comfortable than the two you've mentioned) |

Such a tough call as I love both cars but I'd have to go with the R8. Here in Atlanta you see 991's literally every day... they are like Camry's around Buckhead.
The R8 though has an exotic appeal, don't see many of those at all! |

Tough choice...I would go for the Porsche, R8 is great, but the Porsche has that something extra special.
(I have the 991 GT3 so I am biased )
