Opinion on Red Sub please

I found this watch for sale at a local jeweler, price seems good (maybe even low), but would really appreciate the opinion of the experts here to know if its any good. Thanks in advance.

Correct mk6 red sub dial with an incorrect insert and luminova pearl. Dial looks pretty nice; however, it looks to be missing the minute marks under the "SWISS T < 25" at the bottom of the dial. In addition there might be some minor dial damage below the 25 at the same place or scratch on the crystal. Patina on the dial is attractive and hands match nicely. Case looks pretty fat. Would help to know the serial number between the lugs.

Thank you very much for your reply and comments yes there is some dial damage at bottom of dial (please see pic below), the insert I assume is not such an issue since I assume that with time one could be sourced. I am not asking for the forum to make a decision for me but the question is whether its a buy "as is" or not, and if its priced according to quality at $9.7k or is it high considering the "minor damage".

Don't have pics between the lugs now but will get them.

Opinions welcome.

I think $9,700 is spot on what it's worth. When You factor in the cost of a new insert and deduct for the Dial damage.I myself would pay a little more for a better Dial.

I have reason to believe the area at the bottom of the dial may have been touched up, perhaps in an effort to cover up the brass plate. I would pass on that one.

For me dial isn't minor as any dial damage is major. So is price fair? Only if you can live with with that dial.

PS I agree with John.

Too bad they tried to touch it up, it would have been better to leave the damage as is.

Great analysis and feedback.

For that price, it's not much of a deal once you factor in the time and money searching for a new bezel insert, pearl, and possibly a dial. You end up paying the same amount for a mint red with a lot more headaches.

$9k also gets you a mint 5513 MF, etc...

Personally my eyes would go to the damage every time I looked at the watch and put me in a bad mood. It would bug me too much.

Also what separates a 6k white 1680 from a 10k red 1680 ?
The Dial..
so think about that....

For me I couldnt wear that and rather pay more to get a top example RED or pay that amount on a good white SUB instead.. Then again I am a little picky with watches.. ;-)

Good decision, the value of the red is in the dial... amongst other things of course

A decent red 1680 dial will be quite an effort to track down and cost you $$$. IMHO for the total spend of watch plus dial plus labour you could pick up quite a tidy example without the extra hassle
