116610. But given the period in which it took place I think it should have been a 16610.

Difficult to pay attention to the watches in the context of the devastation, I was too busy wiping away the sadness.

Superb movie. So much bad films coming out nowadays, I almost get shocked once there's a good one.

I noticed that too. Do you think Rolex paid for screen time? Especially in the very last scene of the movie where he gives the order to sell, the watch is in your face. I pointed it out to my wife and she just called me crazy for noticing that. Very good movie all around. Especially loved the bits where they brought random/famous people in to explain nuances about the various trading methods! Wolf of Wall Street has several rolexes in it too. I guess Rolexes have become ubiquitous on Wall Street.

Correct. Sure as hell looks like a ceramic bezel, which means 116610

Another person on Steve Carell's hedge fund team wears a 17000 Oysterquartz which is also shown pretty prominently.

They haven't become ubiquitous... they ALWAYS have been... as a brand it has recognition and a certain prestige associated with it. In an environment in which you are expected to dress conservatively every day (suit, tie, dark colored shoes) a watch becomes about the only expression of individual taste and/or style.

About 15 years ago the new big thing in Wall Street was bicycles. It was the height of American domination of the sport with the USPS team (Armstrong and the rest of his guys) participating and winning in many international races, including the grandaddy of them all:the Tour de France. To this day, cycling remains a hugely popular pastime for Wall Street guys, but it has definitely waned from its heyday. Most of the bike shops that has sprung up in lower manhattan are now gone. For those of you with wives and girlfriends who may think you are nuts because of your Rolex "obsession" or hobby, consider this: basic, high end bikes routinely go past 5K, with many models in the 10K range. Top of the line models can and do surpass 20K. At least you get to wear your watches daily.

100% correct - it's got the supercase design...and to be period correct it should have been the 16610 as only the GMT had the supercase in 2007-8

here's a Rolex trivia question...in the Deer Hunter (1978) Robert DeNiro returns to Pennsylvania from Viet Nam. upon re-connecting with Meryl Streep, he is seen wearing a Rolex (black dial/oyster bracelet). what model is this? it only appears for about 5 seconds & I haven't a clue.
