Planning our yearly Europe trip.

Planning for this years trip to Europe.

My wife wants to go Europe this year..
basically we have been to the usual tourist destinations in Europe except Russia, Scandinavia, Southern Europe, Poland , Hungary, Czech Rep and Germany..

Any suggestions? Of course, Might pick up a Rolex if the exchange rate is favorable👍

Russia isn't Europe, and remember you will probably need a Visa.

Living in Scandinavia I have to recommend it. It's very different from the rest of Europe. Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, Depending on how long your vacation is, but you can easily do the Capitals, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki (and if in Helsinki it's only a two hour ferry ride over to Estonia and you'll get to see Tallinn) in a week. Two days/city is enough IMHO.

Germany. Where to start? I love Germany. The people, the FOOD, The BEEER. The Germans are IMHO the friendliest people in Europe. Go to Bavaria (plenty of beer houses everywhere, you don't have to go to Bavaria to find them), go inside a Biergarten sit next to a stranger and talk, eat great food and drink. Drink until you're drunk.

Czech republic is nice, been a few times. Prague is the number one destination, and it really is a spectacular city.

Never been to Poland, but have only heard good things. Cheap too! Budapest is also lovely.

I guess if you have enough time, you could do them all in the same trip. Flying is pretty cheap. Germany is The Hub for flying in Europe, so having it as your start/end point makes sense. Flying in Scandinavia is also pretty cheap, you have SAS, Finnair and Norwegian as alternatives. All top-notch carriers.

Southern Europe, lots of options! Many different islands, be it Greek, Italian, Spain, Maltan... Basically you have the whole northern Mediterranean coast to pick and choose from.

One of our retirement plans is to wander around Greece (including the islands) in a camper van (RV). You wouldn't need an RV if you didn't want to, you could always fly in to Athens and hire a car. Island hop and wander to your heart's content.

I find that the best places are found when there's no plan, you just follow your nose and see where you end up. Loads of great Tavernas and hotels to be found.

You could do a Munich-Salzburg trip, or a Vienna-Budapest trip to get a taste of two cities on the same trip. My wife and I loved Munich and the surrounding beauty of Bavaria when we visited, can't wait to go back.

Edit: Just saw your response, Munich-Salzburg is my recommendation then!

Went to Germany Fall 2014, I wasn't looking forward to it as much as the France and London portion of our trip...Munich was by far my favorite portion of the trip.

My wife spent a few days in Berlin and I met her in Munich later in the week.

We did do the Munich-Salzburg day trip and that was wonderful. We also took a two day trip to Fussën to see the castles down in the Bavarian Alps. Looking back I wish we would have bypassed our France portion and spent two or three more days in Germany. We went just as the winter village and shops were opening up. I would highly recommend Germany. The people were wonderful, the towns were great, I had a much better time in Munich than I did in Paris.

Only thing I wish we would have done was see a soccer match...

It's the Lakes Region in The North of England....

The obligatory Prague-Vienna-Budapest route would check two off your list. Its a common route and only getting more expensive each year.

I absolutely LOVE Greece! Best country in Europe. And I am talking about the mainland, not the islands (they are too touristy). Athens and all around there is lovely, good value for money and you have everything!

The coldest August I ever spent was the week I was in Edinburgh a few years ago. We stayed at the Caledonian and were given blankets by the concierge when they found out we were attending the Tattoo. It was a great experience but we froze that night.

Berlin is a great city to visit. Time has essentially stood still in Munich, but it is also a wonderful place to visit. Copenhagen is a beautiful city, too.

Well, 75% of Russia's area actually belongs to Asia.

But, yes St Petersburg is only a few hundred kilometers from me, so I guess we could call it eastern Europe. My point was, Russia isn't the EU (Europe) as almost all nationalities, require to get a VISA to enter Russia. It's not something you just drive across an invisible border to visit.

I did that with a tour group in 2002, a great trip. If I had to pick one of the three, it would be Prague.

Italy is the most beautiful country in the world, IMO, with the best food, architecture and cultural heritage. Italy, and the South of France, are my favourite places to be.
