Stolen ROLEX: GMT Master II SS-Miami
Friends, If you are traveling, I have learned the hard way that its not a good idea to take expensive watches such as your Rolex on your travels. I had my Rolex stolen in Miami & want to get some feedback from anyone with similar stories.
Thankfully I was insured & after 45days of back and forth with the insurance company I was covered. I like to know the following if anyone can relate to this thread: 1. What did you do with your Rolex box/papers/warranty card etc. after the watch went missing/stolen 2. Any point in holding onto this stuff (every time I see my GMT box, I am now reminded of my experience of having the watch stolen). I am hopeful it may get picked up during service which at that time I can turn the watch/papers/box over to my insurance company. Love to hear some feedback, Sucks to have your watch stolen, thank god it was insured Rags2Rolex |

Wow. Sorry to hear.
Can you share how it was stolen? I'd just offer to return the box and papers to the insurance company. |

I'm sorry to hear your nice watch was stolen, but glad to hear you got it resolved with your insurance company. What was the reasoning for the 45 day process with the insurance company? Was the piece insured via your homeowners policy, or through a separate policy such as a personal articles policy or a policy through someone tlike jewelers mutual?
I've not had any of mine stolen or lost, so I can't comment on what you should do with the box/papers. I have a personal articles policy via State Farm and they do not require box/papers/purchase receipt to insure a watch, just valid appraisals.

Specifics would be helpful, hotel? Left it on a beach towel, or night club blur, or did you get mugged?
I frequent the south beach area, and not only have I never had an issue, I usually find that my watch is worth the least amongst he other owners. |

The watch was insured through my homeowner's policy with a separate jewelry policy to insure the watch directly. The insurance company was very thorough & requested photos of the watch & when I had worn it In California. They asked for friends to contact, receipts, store name, time of purchase, date of purchase, photo properties & tags identifying when photos were taken of the watch, etc.

So how, where, when was it stolen? Half stories don't help others or allow others to help you.
EDIT: Guess this story is a rerun. I'm a sucker. |

Watches are just fine to travel with.
You didn't provide details. But when traveling anywhere common sense prevails. Travelled around the world and never a problem with any watch. |

thanks RolexKing, Great collection my friend, very impressive.
Thankfully the watch was insured, unfortunately that watch model now triggers an uncomfortable memory and reminder so currently I do not own a Rolex, however after nearly 1 year from that incident I have been looking at them again and considering either a replacement of my GMT II or a Daytona SS. |

If you want feedback on similar stories, why don't you TELL US how your watch was stolen?

Good judgement is the result of experience and experience the result of bad judgement. I have learned my lesson when traveling. Texex, I hope you continue your travels around the world & never have any issues & you are properly insured.

If you have the Rolex box, sell it on eBay. The papers and warranty card can go into the trash/shred bin.

After being questioned numerous times, still no details forthcoming from the OP as to where and how it was stolen. It's pretty useless advice to just say "Don't travel/or watch out when traveling" and then leave it at that. Actual advice would be to share the circumstances to allow others to learn from the mistake in order for them not to repeat it.
OP, good judgment doesn't just come from bad experiences. Judgement is a combination of Knowledge and Experience. If you can't help raise the Knowledge level of others by sharing, then why post in the first place except as a fishing expedition for sympathy? Until you do, nobody is learning a thing from your mistake. My guess is that there's a good reason no details are being offered and those queries ignored. |

Good luck with your insurance claim.
If I can venture a guess, the reason why it has taken so long with the insurance company is likely because of your 'story' or lack thereof. I've heard of others who have lost and had their watches stolen and their claims were settled in 10 days or less. I'm guessing the insurance company doesn't care about the box and papers because to them that doesn't prove you 'had' the watch with you at the time of the said incident. I stand to be corrected but will need to hear the entire story. Either way, good luck. |

I bet it was misplaced or left behind as there is no mention of police reports.

Just look at all the exceptions on an insurance policy. I'm sure one if not a few of these terms were 'touched' thus the delay in settlement. It's not clear cut obviously or the OP would have been paid out.
