No kidding. And I'm new to all of this. Just picked up my first Rolex last month and subsequently found this site. I would not have blinked twice a month and a half ago seeing that plate.

Good eye. I've seen a guy by me in NY with the ROLEX license plate driving around. I don't think I was able to grab a pic though.

It may mean something else on the Tesla, on the one in NY kind of obvious (unless that's the guy's name / last name?

That Rolex plate would have carried more weight on a different car. Nothing wrong with Honda just not what you attribute Rolex with.

Yeah. I'm curious what that means too. Maybe because I don't own a car, but I don't see what makes a Honda an "un-Rolex" car.

To the OP: it's funny that you noticed that. Nobody would think twice about that plate except for us sick puppies here.

Honda's brand image is economical and responsible, quite the opposite of Rolex. 🕵

It is a tool car. Well engineered, reliable, lasts forever with a little bit of maintenance. Sound familiar?

Most of the Rolex owners I know don't drive luxury cars. Mid size, durable, daily beaters and SUVs are the norm. Most of the luxury car owners I know don't have a Rolex.

Some people might prioritize owning a luxury watch, while others might prefer a luxury car.

Still, if we forced the Rolex marketing department to align their image with an automotive brand, I don't think they would choose Honda.

You make my point in the first sentence. People prioritize differently. There is no wrong answer.

So then, why does owning a Honda and a Rolex vanity plate cause an eye roll?

if the number plates in other countries are anything like the UK, in that desirable plates cost more, they are probably doing it on purpose

have seen the plate "A1" here which is worth over £1M , on a mini cooper .................

No eye rolls from my camp. But I can see how others would find the brands dissimilar.

Not really, you forgot that little detail of price. Comparably speaking the Honda doesn't cost it's equivalent to Rolex in price. If the Honda was $80k then maybe you'd have a more reasonable point. Your same point is better used on a Lexus.

And while you make some valid points in your second sentence, sometimes we are a bit unnecessarily sensitive and try not sound offensive when talking about non-luxury items as if it somehow will define someone here.

The fact of the matter is that while there is nothing wrong with an Accord or owning one, it is still not the normal or expected association to Rolex ownership. Because if you can afford a Rolex most often than not it also leads to other luxury items like shoes, wallets, jeans and yes cars....and by saying "not exactly what you'd expect a Rolex plate on"....that isn't at all demeaning or derogatory to any Honda owner. I had economy cars when I bought my first Rolex so I know. And some here don't even own cars but there is a far higher ratio of lux cars and watches here....haven't seen the -your Rolex and Honda thread here yet. My .02

And the detail about massive depreciation, ridiculous insurance, and over the top long term maintenance costs...

It was an observation. The statements seemed to say that a proper Rolex owner is one with a tendency for ostentatious display of wealth.
