Submariner 116613LB with random serials

Dear all,

I need your advice for my next purchase.

I am going to pull the trigger for 116613LB matte blue dial. However, this one is random serials and first purchased in 2014. Is it true that matte blue Sub is continued till 2014 and come with random serials?

Many thanks for your advice!

The watch could have been sitting in the AD's showcase for 6-12 months before the eventual first owner came along and purchased it. I recall seeing an 'original edition' blue 116613 and a sunburst blue 116613 sitting side by side in an AD's shop sometime around 2013-2014.

Don't forget, when Rolex phases something out, it doesn't always happen overnight. It could legitimately take a year or more as they continue to produce watches until all the original edition blue dials are used up.

If you have concerns about the authenticity of the watch, please arrange with the seller to have it inspected by a Rolex-trained watchmaker. This should be part of your due-diligence process.

I'm on my second 'original blue' 116613, and this time I'm keeping it, lol. It's an absolutely gorgeous watch, and, IMO, the terms 'flat blue', 'matte blue', and 'smurf blue' are misnomers and do the watch a disservice as the dial in reality has a palpable dimensionality to it and sports a deep, rich, royal, cobalt blue that is unmatched in the world of blue-dial watches.

I hope it all works out for you. IMO, it's one of the most strikingly beautiful watches on the planet. My 'V' serial says hello.

Kind regards, -rick.

I just purchased this brand new from an AD 2 weeks ago, and yes, it was discontinued in 2013.
