From what I've read, Sony service leaves a lot to be desired if you run into problems. Also, apparently you can not clean the sensor in your Sony camera without voiding your warranty, unless Sony does it(or should I say one of Sony's 3rd party service centres does it). That's a huge drawback given mirrorless camera sensors are likely to get dirty much quicker than a DSLR's sensor by virtue of being totally exposed when you change lenses. You may not want to have to send your camera in every time it needs the sensor cleaned..not only will it be expensive, but it's a time consuming for a job you can do yourself in about 5 minutes. As I see it as Sony and Panasonic are consumer gadget companies first, and maybe camera companies second at best. My preference is to go with a camera company, Nikon, Canon, Fuji etc. mirrorless vs DSLR, that's another whole discussion.

Mirror less camera

Love them! Bought a Sony RX100 IV before we went on our trip to Peru and it is a fantastic camera. Great for traveling!

You may want to look at one... http://www.sony.net/Products/di/en-us/products/f5kd/

You know that Sony makes most of the sensors in Nikon DSLR cameras, right? Nikon doesn't choose Sony because they're a gadget company, they choose them because they're the best.

Sony's camera lineup in the last 4 years is a match for anyone's, often ranking at the top of comparisons in many of the different categories. Sony lenses, especially the Zeiss varieties, are also top of the heap.

The a6000 is a great camera, but has recently been replaced by the a6300, with significantly improved autofocus.

Yes, that is correct, many Nikon DSLR's use Sony sensors, some use toshiba, some are actually made by Nikon, and I believe there is also one other manufacturer which I can't recall the name of. I wouldn't go so far as to say Sony sensors are the best, period, perhaps they're the best choice for the given bodies that Nikon uses them in, i.e. Cost/performance for a given model and target market/user. My point about Sony is that they're a consumer electronics company. The are not a camera company like Nikon, Canon, etc. That doesn't necessarily mean that they make junk. They do perform well per many people's expectations, experience, reviews, opinions etc, just as the other major manufacturers have their fans. I'm just not convinced that they have the same level of service as companies like Nikon, Canon, Fuji, etc have when things go wrong. While at a consumer level, they're certainly very good for many people, I do think if durability, service support, longevity and value retention are a consideration, then an offering from the likes of Nikon, Fuji, Canon etc is a better bet.

The new a6300 is getting rave reviews and does 4K video like a pro. It has 425 AF points and is just tack sharp. For video, it does more than my 5D MKIII and 1/3 of the cost.

If I were in the market for mirror less, I would be looking at the a6300 or A7 line if I wanted to spend more. Dollar for dollar, the a6300 can't be beat.

I would also look at getting the body only then buy a nice Zeiss/Sony lens.

I have recently tried the Sony a6300, is an awesome little beast. I currently have an A7s and its low light capability coupled with a smaller form factor is awesome. Haven't needed to repair the camera yet so no idea about their service standards. If going full frame the A7s 2 or the a7r 2 would be my choice.

I have a Sony mirrors less camera but it is not any of those two that you mentioned.

The one that I have is A7r. It has the same sensor as Nikon D800r but it is way smaller and lighter.

I purchased A7r (36 MP Full Frame) with it's own zeiss 24-70mm lens. I absolutely love it.with some photography knowledge the results will are awesome. I love it. It is light, small, fast, super high resolution sensor, awesome zeiss lens. if you travel a lot for vacation like me then size, weight is a huge factor.

before a7r I had Nikon d7000 which is a crop sensor and released in 2010. it was one of the best in it's own class. when I shoot some raw photos with my ar7 and processed them first time I blown away by the resolutions and details of the photos.

Do I recommend the one that I have? 100%.

if you don't want to drop that much money of a camera I would say save up more and at least get a7 or a7 II. a7 is 24 MP full frame. my GF has it and photos are great. full frame is a huge factor.

in order to get a great result you also need a great glass. sony has a zeiss line up made just for their full frame miracles cameras(a7,a7II,a7r,a7rII,a7s)
make sure you get a good all around lens. like 24-70mm.

I would say get better glass, it's more satisfying and you can easily sell them on eBay at good prices if you are not happy with It. Go to photography forums like on dpreview for advice on good lenses. Once you are happy with the pictures, you will end up adding different focal lengths anyway. You will also appreciate the difference between using primes and zooms, enjoy.

sony rx1 or leica Q

if you're not going full frame sensor, buy the latest and greatest phone with built in camera, seriously.
