He couldn't accept it.

My father was recently overseas for a wedding.

He was wearing his 116610LN and was at a table with a close family friend.

The friend was wearing a 116613LB and at the end of the evening, he took it off his wrist, put it down in front of my father and said "I would like you to have this".

Apparently he was serious, but my father couldn't accept it.

The first thing I asked when he got back, "did you at least take a few pictures of it?". Obviously to put them on the forum.

Unfortunately he did not.

Nothing like that ever happens to me.

Your father did the right thing. Very generous of the other person.

Well Syed, it seem that your father is not a huge TT enthusiast . Nice story. Thanks for sharing.

He actually loves two tone watches

He said it crossed his mind for a second, but in the end it was a bit too much.

cool story. i may or may not have accepted depending on the situation. i gifted an heirloom rolex to my cousin. he didn't want to take it, but i told him that it was for his new born son at the time and was to be handed down to keep in the family.

The guy is the son of a very old and close personal friend of my paternal family.

So he feels like my father and my uncles are like his family.

He basically said that he felt like he was giving it to his own father who isn't around anymore.

I can't imagine giving away my Rolex. Probably because it's only four days old to me.
I could see it being a gift to my Pops or my Nephew or Stepson someday.

You father should have accepted, on the condition that he takes your fathers 116610LN.

Then everyone leaves happy.

I always wanted to give my dad a watch
He died very suddenly from cancer at age 65....2 yrs ago, so I never got the chance.
I gave my brother a new 116710LN GMT last summer.

This would have been a very awkward moment if it were me and my in-laws. My in-laws are Japanese and I've learned not to say 'no' to a present from them or I could be insulting them. But a $10K watch is not the usual casual gift. I could not have accepted either. But very generous offer.

If someone would gift me better version of my watch, he would get my watch in return. :)
