It bothers me too but only for the first few weeks and then as the scratches add up I learn to get used to it.

You'll come to realize scratches are a part of life. It's brand new so you'll probably obsess about every tiny detail for a while.
Congrats and enjoy it, it's a gorgeous and tough piece

just treat her well and enjoy the "patina". It's tough at first but you'll get over it. when it comes time to service the watch get it polished.
Of course you know now how fast scratches surface, so not only is polishing the watch every year WAY too often, its also simply not logical. congrats on the watch, your first scratches and good luck! |

Yes...scratches happen. The ones that hurt are the gouges. |

First Rolex and it's only been 2 days.....you are in the "honeymoon" phase and this will bother you for a while until the scratchophobia syndrome phases out of your system. You are not alone.

As long as it is polished correctly it should not devalue it at all. And a normal amount of wear won't devalue it either. Just enjoy it. I recently had my 16613 serviced and lightly polished it looks and runs great. Just a little advice only let a Rolex certified service person polish you watch. I had a Cartier Tank that looked good to me and when I flipped it one shop wasn't even interested because the polish was wrong.

Try not to sweat it. A professional polish at an RSC will not hurt the value of your watch if done at normal servicing time.
Enjoy the watch and remember at arm's length you can barely see any scratches at all. |

No matter how paranoid you think you are, you are not paranoid enough.
Scratches are part of wearing and owning. No they do not bother me as I own to wear and enjoy.

Most would be bothered. You, however, are excessively worried due to the anxiety of OCD

You'll get over it in a few years.
It's your first Rolex and a part of the learning curve. Omega's are less prone to showing damage. If you want to keep it pristine never take it out of the box. |

I just remember that those light surface marks can be professionally removed at any time, but then I leave them be. Just that knowledge counterbalances things. Wear it carefully, sure, but don't sweat it.

I understand what you mean but you'll get used to scratches - IMHO they add character to the watch. I would never have any of mine polished, even by Rolex at service time, but that's my preference.
