My Father's Watch A Shoutout & A Coincidence
I'll start by thanking Vanessa again. She did a fantastic job servicing my father's Date Just. If you need a service, don't hesitate to use her at all. She's top notch In case any of you missed it, here's where she documented the process
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=462859 Here's the story of the watch. On Feb 26th, 1986 my father purchased a 16030 on an AAFES in Italy. It had a white dial, SS fluted bezel, hands and crown. In 89 or 90 he sent it to RSC NY where he had the dial changed to a black one with gold stick markers. He also changed the crown, hands and bezel to YG. RSC sent him his original parts back. He still has everything that came with it...boxes, papers, tags, purchase receipt. All that stuff tucked away. Aside from the three times it's been serviced he's worn it every day for 30 years. Here's a picture of it when I received it back from Vanessa He sent me a quick wrist shot after he got it Now here's the coincidence. I don't know if I'd call myself a flipper or an enthusiast. Either way I keep trying to find what I like. Don't we all There were two SS models I was considering. One I had before and one I never tried. My friend and TRF member JES77 went to an AD so he could figure out what he liked. It also helped me make my mind up. I made the call and had to wait, which was fine. This watch is named and dated in my name Feb 26th, 2016. 30 years to the day after my father's. Is it a keeper? I hope so. The only other SS model I'd consider is the other one I was considering. Thanks for reading everyone and have a nice day. Happy Palm Sunday

Awesome story thanks for sharing. Happy Palm Sunday to you too! I'll be wearing my date just this morning watching my daughter sing in the Easter celebration cantata this morning at church. Have a blessed day.

Cool story. However RSC at one point allowed you to change a watch to a different non shipping configuration AND sent the parts back? Wow....cool.

Awesome story! Thanks for sharing. Can you share your thought process on why you chose Vanessa over say RSC or Bob or Rikki? Nothing against Vanessa, just trying to understand how you picked where to restore/service.
I am in a similar boat right now. My dad recently passed and as he aged he stopped wearing watches all together so there are some in his collection that are in dire need of an overhaul. |
