New Daytona already back in shop

Picked up a Brand new white dial SS from my local AD. By the time I made it home, it had stopped working. Took it right back and now on the way to service center. Any ideas ? The AD shook it by his ear and said it rattles and will need a service and clean. This is a brand new watch. What would you do? The AD said no cost to me, but a watch less than 3 hours already stopping.

Take the free service at least then you know it likely won't need one for a solid 10/years

OK...I'll ask the obvious question: was the watch fully wound?

I would ask for a new watch without question. This is highly unusual. If he refuses I would dispute the charge on my credit card and never shop there again, I know my AD would take it back without question.

This...absolutely! You paid over 10k for a precision instrument and it needs a service the first day...bulls@#t!

The watch industry is full of people who will try and pull the wool over your eyes...

Get a new watch!

They offered a refund, but it is the last SS white dial they have.

I wouldn't listen to these guys who "insist" on another watch.

You can be sure, now, that your watch will be taken completely apart, every part checked for tolerance, any out-of-tolerance parts replaced, and it re-assembled to the latest Superlative Chronometer standards - by hand.

Think of it as having your new Ferrari engine completely blue-printed !! Now who wouldn't want that !

Quite a spin....
With all do respect, I wouldn't want that at all.
This is a brand new watch and this is completely unacceptable

I totally agree... He talks about the OP's new watch being completely taken apart, as if someone would want their 3-hour-old watch completely taken apart...

I respectfully disagree with you - a watch is a mechanical thing and may break down at ANY time for any reason...its being repaired for free and will be as good, if not better than new, when returned.

You can get incensed about quality control or say it shouldn't have happened, but how many of these threads do we see in relation to the number of watches purchased. Also, I wonder if the watch was fully would 60 turns is a full wind on the 4130 movement and sometimes these watches need a small break-in period.

Recently a member reported an issue with his $150k Patek forum....he solved the issue by manually cycling the watch over a few days and now it's fine.

Not my idea of how a brand new watch should work. Sorry. Let someone else have that "blue-printed" Daytona. Not me brother.

If only the RSCs did perfect work 100% of the time. Any time you send one in, you're running a risk, though relatively small, that it's going to come back scratched, dinged, or otherwise poorly looked after.

The risk of the watch coming back scratched didn't appear to be relatively small for my Polar, since it came back with numerous scratches...

It's not a small risk...it's almost certain your watch will come back with scratches/dents/etc. At least that's my personal experience. You might get lucky.

Take the refund and keep shopping.

I wouldn't and I doubt anyone thinking straight would! I want all that done at the factory during the production process and not after final assembly. The process you are referring to is called "REFURBISHMENT" and anything refurbished (even factory refurbished) is not "NEW," must be advertised as refurbished and is always offered at a considerable discount.

This!!!!! IMHO a new watch isn't necessary. If it gets a full service your new watch will be great for 10 years hopefully.

It's much smarter to get it serviced to the highest standard than throw a tantrum. But I guess some people feel the need to throw their weight around...

That would leave me with a sour taste in my mouth. Will he/she give you another watch? If that goes to an RSC (which it probably will) you won't see it for six weeks.

If they won't give you another watch, return it. You want your money back.

Let them send that watch to be serviced while they order you in a new one.
