Vintage 9ct gold Precision watch

Hi all my dad is looking to bid on a watch at auction but i wanted to see what you guys think of it ad i have no clue about this watch.

Here is the description given by the auctioner.


A 9ct Gold Wristwatch, signed Rolex, model: Precision, 1960, (calibre 1200) lever movement signed and numbered 95377, silvered dial with Arabic and dagger markers, subsidiary seconds, snap-on back with a presentation inscription, case back stamped inside with maker's mark ALD and numbered 12868 37786, Birmingham hallmark, 32mm wide, with Rolex boxes, original guarantee and booklet 03.03.16, Case with minor scratches, back cover with a presentation inscription, later strap and buckle, dial is clean, movement is clean and in going order.

The proverbial gold watch. If I'm not mistaken Rolex had a catalog for these non-oyster presentation watches in the 50s. This one is most likely from a commonwealth country with a locally made 9k case because of taxation of the times.

It's a nice looking watch, love the sub seconds. Make him understand it is a small watch at 32mm. The 1200 movement is easy to get worked on, the last iteration was the 1210 found in the 6694 last produced in the late 80s.

This is not a hot market so it will be relatively inexpensive to buy. I don't know the current market on them, last one I saw sold was years ago for about 1200USD as I recall. It's worth whatever it's worth to him but don't go too crazy, they are't that hard to find.

Thanks for your reply, my dad is in his 70's and has always wanted a gold rolex. He wears a gold watch now thats 32mm so will be fine. I just have no knowledge of these old watches.

ALD stamp and Birmingham hallmark would mean the case was made in UK by Dennison, not a commonwealth country.
