Verification of "superlative chronometer" designation
I am strongly considering purchasing the current Explorer 1 214270. I actually prefer the white gold 369.
The local authorized dealer just sold the watch that I was looking at, and now has recently received a new watch in stock with the green hangtag. I have been informed by the AD that the watch now has a warranty for five years and has the "superlative chronometer" designation has redefined in July 2015 by Rolex. -2/+2 seconds per day after casing. The current model 214270 has been produced from 2010 through 2015. With the redefinition of superlative chronometer in July 2015, this watch was produced to these specifications only in its last six months of production. The watch I am looking at falls into these specifications. My question is, in the future how can I verify this watch meets the new superlative chronometer specifications. My understanding is the serial numbers are now scrambled preventing identification of an exact date of manufacture. I am sure that the green hangtag may be obtainable for purchase elsewhere and may certainly not be proof of the designation. The warranty card will certainly give a date of five years. Is this enough verification or may this not even be important in the future for resale value? Thanks for your help. I have found these forums very helpful. This will be my first Rolex. |

Future verification
You are overthinking this. The new marketing policy is nothing more than a commitment from Rolex that they will time your watch within the new "superlative" standards. Most every Rolex produced in the past decade can be timed to these specs. After the warranty period it may require a full service to regain original tolerances to achieve this..
