Is the SD 904L

I read somewhere in this forum that SD are made with 904L steel. is the 16600 made with 904l ??

The grade of steel is 904L in all current-model Rolex watches that have steel in them.

what year did they end the use of 3XX(cant remember if it was 316L or304L)-grade steel and switch to 904L?
was it gradual?

The 168000 used 904 circa 88-89.

I asked this same question on TZ some time ago, one of the responses i got was:

"they changed it circa 1987 on the Sub :

the Sub ref 168000 produced in '87 is made of the new harder 904L steel & was made for a few months after the previous ref 16800 using the 916 steel and just before the new 16610 also using 904L steel"

I think he meant 316L just before 904L....currently Omega, Breitling, etc use 316L
