Buying My First Rolex - What An Experience!
Hi All.
So I posted my unboxing and first impressions of the beautiful Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114300 Rhodium dial in the reviews section and it got some amazing comments from forum members... thank you! I'm in love with my first rolex. It's not the only watch I own. I also have an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Diver and a few other more 'beater' type watches. Unfortunately, the buying experience at the Rolex store where I purchased this from wasn't normal for me. I've been to many different boutiques internationally (with a camera) and have never experienced anything but great service. Let me know what you thought of my experience. Good?! Bad?! Buying My First Rolex - What An Experience!
I don't know, maybe if you hadn't been filming you would have experienced some staff who would have felt more at ease and ultimately felt the service/experience was better.
I would imagine that many people won't be natural whilst being filmed. Some boutiques from what I have heard don't like photos being taken inside, let alone footage. Nice watch, though, and excellent quality camera that the footage was taken on. |

Why two threads on the same subject?

I don't know how I came across it but I remember watching that video a long time ago. It was probably suggested to me due to all of the Rolex/Watch related videos I look at.
I would second the thoughts of R_G above in that it might have been different if you were not filming the whole thing. In saying that, while I always have an acceptable experience buying a rolex watch it is never this great life changing moment that some people seem to think it will/should be.

Nice video, they stopped the polishing cloths a couple of years ago.

The cleaning cloths have been discontinued and the "travel sleeve" only comes from the RSC with a serviced watch, so I think you were unfair to publicly shame that sales assistant when you're asking for things they wouldn't have anyway. I think most AD's would have asked you to leave if they caught you filming, too.

I wasn't aware until afterwords. Though it would have been nice for the staff to have been clearer when I asked if I could purchase etc.
Also on the subject of filming that was made clear before I started inside and they said ok. Told them I was recording my first Rolex purchase. Quote:

Buying My First Rolex - What An Experience!
It's a strange one... I'm well aware that blogging/vlogging is the way things roll these days.
When something of interest or significance happens whether you're out and about or whatever, it always makes me wonder when I watch people whip out their smartphones or cameras. It seems to me that so many people would rather live the moment behind a lens, of for that matter hosting in front of it, almost for the benefit/recognition of others?! Which ever way you cut it, it's not natural. I have enjoyed all of my watch purchases camera-free. For me, I want to 'live' the experience naturally and enjoy it for what it is. |

It's a great watch. I'm also surprised they allowed you to film.
Enjoy the OP! |

I have bought rolexes in Doha and whilst the experience was okay there was no wow factor. I think Doha is similar to Abu Dhabi in that they turnover a great deal of watches and that for most purchasers the purchase is just not a big deal. I think the more laid back approach of the sales assistants probably reflects that fact.
Anyway, nice choice of OP. |

Well, it looks like you have to buy another Rolex without filming and report back about the experience.
Great watch by the way! |

Nice pickup. I've never had a luxury experience purchasing any watch (PP, AP, Rolex). Frankly the best experience I have had is with a local clothing boutique which offers wine and beer and food!
Where do you find you have recieved a luxury experience? I haven't at LV, Hermes etc |

In my AD and even in-person trusted seller experiences, I've been offered a seat to relax, sometimes a drink, fitting and friendly conversation. I see no problem with filming the experience; this is 2016 not 1966.

Maybe you could educate me on why you would want to film the purchase of a watch?

Well if you mean service at least its not what we get over here, we get those little green sleeves which you also get when you buy the watch. But not a roll like that.

I would not go as far as video-recording the whole purchase, and I usually buy from pre-owned watch stores, but I like a make a picture of me and the Sales person, as a souvenir of a successful deal. Some of them agree, others don't.
I like to see a smile on their face after a tough negotiation. |
