Florida Vacation

Hi Friends,

I am planning on heading to Florida in June with my wife and 6 year old son. Staying in DW resort for 2 weeks and then off property for 2 more weeks to cover Universal, Sea World, LEGOLAND etc.

I am considering which watches to take. I will definitely be taking the Apple Watch. But am hanging on a thread about whether to take the 116718LN, or the Deepsea, or play it safe with an older 16610.

I know it's a personal choice and unfortunate incidents can occur anywhere. What would you guys do?

The rooms have safes and scratches and dings all tell a story, so I can alternate between the apple watch and the Rolex.

However, a little guided suggestion would definitely help me make a decision.

Also, would you guys be able to suggest where to stay POST my 2 weeks in Disney World? Where would be the closest place to go watch-window-shopping? :)

DW rides are pretty passive, yet Universal has a few rides that can cause dings, choose wisely. If you have a rented car, try Air BnB instead of hotels imho. Orlando has some shops yet never been to them. If you're really into aeronautics, visit NASA on the East coast as it is only a 60 min drive.

I'm from Tampa and lived in Orlando for many years - I'd recommend the DSSD as you'll like the ability to change the bracelet size on the fly with the high level of humidity which will cause your wrists to swell up and go down throughout the day.

As for where to window shop, you've got Florida Mall pretty close to you (Mayor's Jewellers) and the higher-end Mall at Millena (http://www.mallatmillenia.com/). Another good place to shop for watches with our very own David SW from here on TRF....here is is web address (http://davidsw.com/).

Lots of good designer stores (no discount), and you've also got Premium Outlets (http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlet...-international) for good discounts from Armani, Barneys New York, Gucci, D&G, etc.

Also, DO NOT leave ANY valuables in the room safe - use a safe deposit box from the front desk - they won't cover a theft from your room.

Hope this is helpful - have a great time mate!!

If you intent to out watch 99% of FL tourists then go with your 116718LN.

If you want to have fun, still have watch confidence and presence then 16610 is the ticket.

I just did the same thing last week and took my GMT IIc- perfect

I would for sure leave the Apple Watch at home... Or just sell it before June and have some extra cash to buy Disney paraphernalia

As far as what watch to wear, I wouldn't worry about them too much, I've worn numerous watches on rides in Orlando with no problems at all.
Somewhere else to stay after your two weeks at DW....I would say you have two options, villa or hotel, all budget depending. The two areas I would suggest would be somewhere on the 192 or International drive. Both are good locations with plenty about to do, shops, restaurants etc. But if planning universal, Lego land and sea world I definitely recommend getting a car.
Then for some watch shopping head up to the mall at milliena, it's right at the top of I-drive. Check out mayors and the Rolex boutique.
Hope this helps, any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Being outwatched at a Disney line is the worst feeling ever.

In my experience, if you don't bring your watch, you will just about check everyone's watches and not be able to focus on the vacation/family time.

If you don't bring your watch, all of a sudden you will spot more Rolex than you ever imagine. Trust me on this.

Don't be that guy with the miserable look standing in line.

Wear what you've got with pride!

As for the Apple Watch, a Mickey Mouse watch would get more looks

I would bring all of my watches. As for the best place to stay, I've been there many times and the best place I've stayed was at a condo off property between DW & Seaworld. I'll never stay at a hotel or DW resort again.

Take the DSSD. The adjustable clasp alone is worth it.

I wore my Panerai 121 on a rubber strap last time I was there because of wrist swelling and it has the best WR of my collection. So in your case, I'd lean towards the deep sea.

As for the Apple Watch, you may only wear it for travel (boarding passes, etc). You will have a Disney wristband on the other wrist as your ride admission, room key, etc. Otherwise I'd imagine you'd prefer the Rolex.

The best advantage to me by far staying at a Disney property is not having to deal with the luggage (it is delivered from your plane to your hotel room) and being able to check in your bags and get your boarding passes at your hotel when you leave. Otherwise the lines are so crazy and long.

Have fun!

If you get bored in Orlando, hop on I-4 West and within an hour, you will be in Tampa (Tampa International Mall) or go to Bradenton/Sarasota area. You will get to enjoy white sands (Siesta Key Beach, St. Armand's Circle). Mayor's is the Rolex AD here.

Keep your Apple Watch at home, you might forget to charge it while in FL. Lots of Rolexes on the west coast, take any of yours to meet their cousins.

I still wear my Citizen Eco Zilla on vacations like that. Call me paranoid but I don't want to worry about it and I would worry about loss/theft. I'm on vacation to relax.

Definitely bring your Deepsea and any other watches you think you might wear. Key West is also fantastic and a short flight or scenic drive from central Florida.

I just got back from DW/Orlando. Was there all last week. The trip was my wife's idea. The kids were not impressed. Wore my Sub. No scratches, dings, robbers, thieves, etc. Yes, Orlando is safe, and the rides are too. In the blazing June heat when you are standing in long lines, even with the Fast Pass, surrounded by the Obesity Epidemic that is now America, you will wish you had something nice to look at, so you want to wear a nice watch and lift your wrist to see just how long you have been standing in line for a ride, for the tram, for food etc. You will look at your nice watch and be reassured that there are some things in life that are well designed, well made, of superior quality, worth every penny, and provide a lifetime of experiences and memories.

You are a brave man to spend 2 weeks in a DW hotel and a further 2 weeks in Orlando. Especially in June.

I recommend the Four Season after you are done with the DW Hotel. In fact, avoid the Disney properties and just spend the 4 weeks at the Four Seasons. Actually, you don't need 2 whole weeks at DW and another 2 weeks in the area. Spend 7 - 9 days in Orlando doing the theme park stuff and then go to Cape Cod or some place more pleasant. Or even a short trip to St. Barths. Because you will need a vacation after the "Disney Experience".

And I agree with some of the posts above. The DSSD with the adjustable clasp may be a good idea with the heat and humidity. Theme park food is very salty. And you will be drinking lots of fluids. The adjustable clasp will help with the swelling.

Bring what you want, but watch out for the poles that are set up for organizing the lines for the rides. I have a few dings from those things.

Yes you will need the adjust-ability, so take the DSSD.

What's an Apple watch?

Funny you mentioned Sarasota and Siesta Key. I don't know of anyone going there except for my wife and I. Don't get me wrong, its really nice there and it's close to Orlando, I'm just surprise not many know about it. Sarasota is renowned for their fine sand and it is just so cool to sit there and watch them paragliders do their thing.

Shhhhh, you don't want to go to Sarasota. These are not the droids you're looking for. ;)

St Armand has a dealer yet I'd avoid... after trying three different times over the years and asking one or two basic questions. Rude comes to mind (sorry and all yet even my wife was astonished by the way they treat clients and I was wearing a Patek, yet stil...). UTC mall in Bradenton has a Mayors dealer, good guys who will discount :)

You don't want to go to Bradenton. These are not the.... you're looking for. Move along. Move along. :)
