Jewels (the ones inside the watch).

Can anyone please explain to me the purpose of the jewels in a Rolex watch movement. I presume they regulate and maintain the accuracy of the movement in some way but how they do this is a mystery to me. What jewels do they use ?

You can tell from this question that I am a total novice - but what the hell.

Thanks.

Here are a few links you can look at, the jewels in any watch are just friction anti wear bearings now made from synthetic ruby. And more don't mean the watch will perform any better. In watches with a lot of complications you will normally fine more jewel bearings.

What's interesting is that the jewels in the watch are made (grown) the same as the synthetic sapphire crystal on the watch face..

For watch jewels they're colored red....synthetic Rubies

For watch crystals they're clear.....synthetic Sapphires

For the new GV they're colored green.... synthetic (?)

they are synthetic and made by supplier. but with recent consolidation of Rolex and its supplier over last few years, I can't say if they are made "outside" of rolex

I think I remember reading that the green in the GV is from copper... Anyone else hear that?
