Bent chronograph needle

Dear folks,
My wife woke up to the following sight on her watch.
Yes a bent chronograph needle hand.
Anyone encountered this before ?
I'm not sure to feel frustrated, bemused or amazed. I dropped it off at the service centre, they were also stumped and will checkup and revert

But decide to post on forum, if anyone seen anything as ease and limited edition as this

LOL, to be honest I find it amazing and would leave it as it is, you would have an absolutely unique watch, would like to hear what explanation of AP for what happened...

trust me . the scene at the service center was classic. the staff picked up the watch to see, looked stumped, took the loop and checked and then asked the technican to come out and confirm. technician took a look, didn't know whether to show a grin or embarrassed face.

As the staff did the paperwork and asked how how i stored them, told them my wife put them in her jewellery box, within a pillow, and lined with felt. the box sits in our cupboard with zero magnetic interference, unless they mention their watch can't be placed along side other swiss mechanical watches...

A week have passed, I believe they are still waiting for factory to provide them the ground breaking answer they need ........

On a serious note, i do have some concerns about AP's quality. as a matter of fact, i did encounter quite a fair bit of issues with the pieces i own. Broken strap plot screws, rough winding, fast timing, now these.

Yup my main issue that happens a lot with their bracelets is screws falling or jamming. I've also seen a lot of timing issues with the ROO models but at least they have very good service centers

About 2 years ago when I was hesitant to get an AP, a RO at that time, a grey dealer friend told me not to as they had 23% of returns within the first 2 years on new watches, not particularly familiar with the statistics of other brands but it does seem huge, and what do you know, I get one, and within a year the ceramic cracks/chips in the most protected part of the case without the slightest shock being involved, have had probably 15 middle/high end watches and this is the first time ever anything is wrong, some could have had a better accuracy but never the slightest problem, until this, but I must say the bent second hand is quite amazing

Only "using the force" could bend the hand like that.

My guess is that it didn't clear the minute hand... or maybe there happen to be a lot of strain in the needle (are these stamped?) and it finally gave.

That's highly unusual and unfortunate. Do you know if the watch was dropped or hit a hard surface? I can see this happening if the watch hit a hard surface right at the 9 o'clock marker. When the forward motion of the second hand came to a sudden stop, the forward momentum of the second hand in its cantilevered stance may cause this deflection.

Good thing this is an easy fix.

Oh dear! Would like to know how this could happened! Could it be due to recent hot weather that courses the second hand to bend?

Yeah I guess the weather changes was too much for the needle and caved in ...

It was kept in a dry and cool place.

Service centre responded. Guess what they had ?

Simply bring it in for a maintenance overhaul. According to the gurus, my movement oil insufficient . And that's it .....



I'm amazed ! They totally ignored my bent hand

If APSC's service technicians keep on remarking about a "lack of oil" issue, then wtf aren't the assemblers in Switzerland using more oil?
Treating customers as imbeciles is not conducive to increased sales and the most valuable method of marketing — word of mouth recommendation!
Could this be a sign that they're stretching themselves too much with a 35K units annual output? The same thing Patek receive an element of flak for, too.

AP actually responded saying that due to the lack of oil in movement, they recommended a overhaul and the hands comes free with it.

I replied asking them why they avoided answering my question and requested them to help me understand why the oil will dry up as most movement oils nowadays are silicon based and concluded with a long email expressing my disappointment and the fact how their slogans seems to be almost a mockery based on their quality and reasons behind their explanation.

That is APs "go to" response for most issues but then they service the movement and give you a nice travel case and 2 year warranty. There is no way lack of oil in the movement would cause the second hand to bend. The excuse is also BS. I've actually seen the complex machine they use to apply oil to the movement. Different parts of the movement get different kinds of oil with different viscosity. The machine also is calibrated to give the exact amount of oil needed. If there was a lack of oil issue they could easily recalibrate the machine.

This is a pretty sad and comical response from AP...what a shame!!!

It's like taking your car to the garage with a broken radio knob and the mechanic telling you the engine needs oil replacement and a new oil filter.

I've never seen anything like that! Im assuming it definitely wasn't like that when you picked it up and can't imagine how it would happen. Hopefully they give you a better answer!
