Old SS Daytona collectible now?

Since it'll probably be phased out soon... and I don't know how many there are... do you think we'll see a price increase. Will there be more demand for it?

Its a good question. Honestly who knows. Either way it is a great Rolex and nice to have.

I'm starting to prefer the SS bezel now after having seen more pics of the ceramic version. Perhaps because it is more dressier and has a classic look to it.

I currently have the white dial SS and also on the list for white dial ceramic.

I have a black dial stainless and I liked it more than the white because of the dressier factor in my opinion. Going to sit back and watch a bit on this new one. In any case I'm going to keep the one that I have - still love it!

I wouldn't speculate on this, since it'd be pure conjecture. I have and am satisfied with the 116520 in white. Hopefully, it'll become a classic, but I am never parting with it regardless. 👍

Zenith maybe. Ton of the in house 4130 out there, so I don't think so.

Cannot understand why the 4130 its been in production for 16 years so many thousands possibly a million of them around possible the Zenith 4030 might go up more in value.Even the so called new Daytona C, movement wise is 16 years old, and the changes even to that are purely cosmetic, a ceramic bezel and a 1990s retro type dial and different ref number so hardly a new watch.

There will always be price increases as inflation drags prices higher and devalues currencies.

Of course collectible now. Everyone is starting to catch the last stickered ones now from the AD´s and therefore the prices have already started to rise. And it doesn´t matter how many 4130 are out there or how long it was produced: The last series with blue lume is a collectors item...

collectible? not really. Premium? Not really. Increase value, yes.

I bought my 16610 in 2001 for $2800 brand new. Good deal at the time, but even a few hundred more would still land me with a decent appreciation on it today.

The daytona is a very different watch than the Sub. It was already hard to find at an AD any given day. Now that it's discontinued, it will be even more difficult to find.

will it become a white elephant? Of course not, but IMO it will appreciate nicely in the next 5-10 years, and can certainly be collectible in a not so rare kind of way.

Yes I think they will become collectable and hold good resale values regardless of how many there are out there. A lot of people waited a long time to get hold of so will likely keep in the collection. It will certainly keep a better resale than a SS yachtmaster which had a similar RRP.

Nib stickered watches are already selling at a slight premium, but that's probably as far as it'll go.

If I were to speculate, I would think that the Mark 1 version of a particular reference would have a better chance of collectability. Hence, if I were to put my chips on, it would be the mark 1 116500 instead of the last batch of SS Daytona.

You can collect anything you want...but plenty of Daytonas out there. You're not going to retire off the proceeds from a sale of a garden variety 116520.

I know people disagree with me, but:

As the bnib versions disappear, I believe they will be harder to get and therefore the cost will likely go up.

But a standard version that is used, is the same as all the other millions out there.

i went to a rolex dealer - airport. he said they still have old daytonas on hand but were instructed by the head office not to sell anything.
he thinks the prices will go up when they start selling it.

Well...who knows.

You can look at the value of the models that have already been discontinued, such as the subs and GMT's and they have done really well, IMO. Others maybe not so much, but in the long term...maybe.

To answer the question...collectible? Absolutely. Now are you going to be able to fund your retirement with the proceeds of selling one? That's another question.

I don't think it will be a collectible because there are so many of them still out there. But it will be a desirable watch. There are people who prefers steel over ceramic bezel. Even those who wants a ceramic version will probably settle for a steel if the wait is too long or can't get one.

The only way the steel version becomes a collectible is if the ceramic version is mass produced and available to anyone who wants one.

Watch, they will produce the the Daytona C with the 4130 for a year or so and then release the model with a newer modern movement. The first batch of ceramics would be worth a ton.

To th OP, it's a wait and see game, but the 116520 will always be appreciated by many as it is a beautiful and timeless piece...even though it does actually tell you time :)
