Major Dilema sorted out...Daytona or Daytona??

Since BaselWorld I have had a major Dilema to deal with.

My 'Grail' watch was a white gold Daytona which I did indeed purchase in 2014. I tried unsuccessfully to have the bezel DLC coated as I REALLY wanted the 'Ceramic' look.

With the introduction of the Ceramic 116500LN, I knew I had to get a white dial. I had to decide whether to sell my 116509 or not. Today I finally bit the bullet and sold my white gold Daytona .... And I am now without a Rolex.

I have spoken to the manager of my Rolex AD this afternoon to se what's happening with the ceramic Daytona. I was told Rolex are being very picky to try and prevent them appearing on the grey market, so they have been instructed to supply 4 names, address & phone numbers of 4 genuine people hoping to buy a new Daytona. The criteria is strictly for repeat Rolex customers. He was pleased to inform me that I was one of the 4 names he has put forward, so it is now a case of just waiting an unknown period of time u till I get the call.

I've got my Tag Heuer Link on at the moment but I'm going to by a SS Daytona 116520 next week and sell that after I've finally purchased a ceramic Daytona.

Nice. I was going to suggest buying a good preowned SS model in the mean time but didn't know if you were as crazy as me. Apparently you are

Makes sense to have a Rolex on while waiting for the ceramic. Not mad at all haha.

Thanks everyone, I'm gutted about selling my 116509 but I know it is the right decision.

He was back in the game before I could reply to his thread apparently.

Having tried them on I think swapping is the right move, hope it comes in soon for you, Gaz.

Must be tough strapping the Tag back on after the WG Daytona.

The Tag Heuer is a lovely watch but it's no Rolex Daytona.

I think I've sorted a black dial 2016 Daytona to buy tomorrow for Ł7200.

When I get the ceramic Daytona IF I decide to sell the 116520 I will not lose any money 👍

I know what you mean Tom, it was a tough call. My plan now is to get the SS Ceramic and then treat myself in 6 years time for my 50th with a new white gold ceramic Daytona (I'm sure they'll be out then).

Hard to let it go that's for sure.

I agree; if he had the WG, black and red model, that is one gorgeous watch - my favorite modern Daytona, after the Platona.

I'm sorry to see you sold.

I loved how much you loved that watch. Even the size difference became a hotly debated issue with SS coma feed to PM.

But I do get it. And I wish you a short wait.

For what it is worth, I personally love the Link. Great looking watch.

+1 I bought a Quartz link about ten years ago and it was my daily for 2 years or more. Supremely comfortable and my fiancé now wears in on occasion as it has a MOP dial with diamond markers.

Honestly, when the Daytona C came out I wondered if it would change how you felt about your much loved WG Daytona. I prefer the black bezels over the shiny WG bezels so I can understand the trade, but I prefer SS to the PM pieces in general. Congrats on your decision! It sounds like it was the right choice for you! Russell

Pre congrats to the OP on getting lined up for the Ceramic Daytona! Sure to be an instant classic.

On a side note: what's with this AD and their concerns about gray market? Any person with real money who pays for the watch in full is a "genuine" person and buyer. What that person does with their property is their own business and if the decide to sell it privately, on forums, on eBay or at a garage sale I can't see why it would be considered "gray". It's just a secondAry market, on a preowned watch regardless of condition.

I agree though he was talking about dealers buying them and immediately selling for a big premium.
