Watch Winders on your Rolex vs. Adjusting Time and Date Constantly
Hi guys,
Just wanna hear your experiences on Watch Winders for your Rolex? Some say its bad for the watch while others say constantly adjusting your time and date if your watch stops is worse for the mechanical movement (wear and tear). Thoughts on this? |

I have 2 Subs and prefer a double watch winder for myself. I personally am not into constantly winding up my pieces and setting the date and time when the mainspring unwinds. Any mid-grade quality winder or better will not harm your watch. Stay away from the cheap junk, as you get what you pay for. This subject is very polarizing and you will get strong opinions on both sides of the fence.

Do a forum search on "winders" and you'll find numerous threads with conflicting opinions on the value of winders. Some people hate them while others wouldn't be without them. Personally I have three quad winders and a single. All of my watches have one or more complications and I hate having to reset a watch each time I want to strap it on.

I frankly only use them for watches whose complications are tedious or time consuming to adjust. Otherwise, it's wind 40 and wear.

I have Orbita winders for my watches in my safe where they stay when not on my wrist. They are always good to go when I want to wear them. I hack them to adjust the time every week or two.

I like my watches ready to go, so I keep them in winders when not wearing them, however, I only turn on the winders every other day.

I'm buying a pre owned GMT master which was purhased from AD 10/2015 and has been on a watch winder....since it has been around 8 months now does it do anything damaging to the movement/mechanism. Sorry if this question has an obvious yes or no answer as im learning.

I started using a dual Boxy watch winder about a month ago... I love it. I just made arrangements with my dealer to exchange it for a quad Boxy winder as I have four automatics and it has been a pain in the a$$ manually winding and/or setting the other two. My dealer swears by the to extend the time between servicing as they prevent the lubricants from congealing and keep the watches running consistently.

all my babies in their crib..so to speak.
There is no error or issue being in the winder, imho.

A most excellent brand is what you already have attached to your arms they are called wrists and what the watch was designed for and not sat on some inanimate machine.Machine winders are not necessary with any Rolex watches as most have at just a simple date complication. And you will do not harm whatsoever to let the movement stop if not needed on the wrist. Then when needed simple wind set and go must take all of 30 seconds to do.And no you will not wear out the crown thats what its for winding the watch. Many manual wind watches with screw down crowns Rolex included got wound up almost daily for decades. And things like crowns, crown tubes, are just normal serviceable items that are often changed at normal service anyway. Now if you do have a watch with many complications then yes a machine winder could prove to be a purely a convienence.

I have actually considered getting a winder to y GMT IIc.
Setting the time is no hassle, but setting the date takes too long as you have to move the hour marker 24 round for each date. Hope Rolex will relase a new movement with a quick set soon

I got a Wolf winder from Amazon. I love it and it's quiet! When it's on you can still hear a mouse fart.

I use two quad rapport London winders. Fantastic quality cases and almost silent. Wouldn't be without them. Worth the extra money IMO as the workmanship on the cases is second to none.
