Newby needs advice with purchase...
OK, so I'm getting ready to make a long awaited purchase of a YM. I'm looking at 2 different dealers on Ebay. One is mvpwatchco and the other is usaveontime. Both are located near me and seem to have prices within my reach.
1. Does anyone have any concerns or negative comments on either? 2. Assuming I purchased from an non-authorized dealer, how does the warranty come to play? Does Rolex still honor it even though it was purchased from a non-AD? 3. Assuming I took the watch to an AD, how much do they typically charge to check the watch for authenticity? 4. I'm torn between the 2tone, white/onyx and the ss/platinum. I plan on wearing them occasionally. In your opinion, which is more classy? All comments are highly appreciated. Thanks!! Frank |

1. No comments. I don't buy Rolex from EBay. Period! 2. Best to call RSC. 3. Most Rolex ADs don't even bother to look at Rolex that wasn't purchased from them. 4. I like my SS/Plat Good luck on your first Rolex. I would take more time researching. In advance my apology for my answers being blunt. |

How much are you saving? I think you will a find pretty common consensus here to by from an AD or from a fellow TRFer in the 'for sale; forum. There is also a 'Watch Out' forum full of information. Ebay... be careful!
Keep researching here for a couple of weeks and make sure you know who you are buying from.

I'd go AD or at least reputable grey.
Have a look at the watch out section here on this board. Ebay is rife with counterfeits...and you need to be really skilled at spotting them. As for which one to go for...hit the search box and type in JJ Platty...there should be enough to keep you busy for a while and brainwash you into buying the "Noblest of all Rolex" etc! Good Luck. There is also lawrenceB. There was also a post today about a member who has A+ reports. While a local purchase is nice, if you do not know one bit about them, who knows where they source there watches from. The gentleman above have had thousands of transcations amoungst many WIS from around the world, that speaks volumes for me! ~Scott |

I dont care if i pay more. I aways purchase from authorized dealers. The one time you get ripped off, all those times you saved is worthless. And if there is any problem, they will take care of it. I dont think you will save more buying rolex's on ebay. You can find an authorized dealer who will give you a discount on the yachtmaster. Only ones you cant get with discount is the daytona.
I would def get the platinum, but get what you feel comfortable wearing. Its a beautiful watch, and would definitely get it if it wasnt soo expensive. good luck |

I'll go against the grain and tell you to buy the best deal you can get. Doesn't matter if its Ebay or Grey market. What you must do is your homework. Always buy the seller first before the watch. If the seller is trustworthy and you have checked them and the watch out then go ahead and buy. There's to many good deals out there to just limit yourself to buying from an AD.

E-Bay purchase
There are reputable sellers on E-Bay. You need to know your seller which is important.
Ask questions like: Where did the seller get the watch? Why does the seller have the watch on the market? Is the watch 100% original? What about papers, Box, Etc. When was the watch last serviced? What about warranties, and by whom? Get references. Very Important. The only way to verify authenticity is to have a Rolex AD or a knowledgeable watch dealer open your YM and look inside for 100% confirmation. I have concerns Rolex will not honor warranties from an non-authorized dealer. YM's are sold on the Rolex Forum if you are patient. Hope this helps. Good Luck Thank You |

Go to time zone dot com and look around for a few weeks. You'll see who the key players are. Already mentioned, LawrenceB (always seems to have a ss/pt ym) and ponycar. There are many others. I feel TZ is much safer than ebay, but still be careful.
FWIW, I bought a Cartier Tank Franc and RWC off of TZ no prob.

1. I never bought from e-bay. Once from TRF and once from TZ. 2. No warranty is transferable in US. 3. RSC charged around 125-150 for authentication and certificate. 4. SS/Plat is much more classy, IMHO. Lastly, there is a good SS/Plat on this forum. Seller replied your post. You can trust him.

If this is your first Rolex, I would go to an AD r a reputable dealer. Always buy the dealer not the watch

Ebay is aight if you can be sure, but nothing beats a Grey dealer that is reputable.
