Cracked ceramic case update

Hi all,

For those who followed or didn't, my chipped or most likely cracked ceramic case had been sent to Le Brassus, they contacted me today to apologize for the delay, about 2 months, but they had to conduct many tests on it, and they will give me back the watch repaired in mid August, at AP's expense.

Since you can't repair ceramic that only means a new case, I wrote them back saying I would like to know what were the reasons for this happening, but would understand if they preferred to keep it confidential, since no shock was involved the only reason must have been a not very well made ceramic case.

I will update if I get any other details on the reasons.

So once again their reputation is verified, they didn't one second do what other brands might have done, imply that it was due to a shock or another wrongdoing on my part.

Would have liked to have it for the beach in Odessa this summer, but I will have it for the next holidays.

Good point for AP on this one you can buy knowing they will fix most problems, not the case of all brands, some have a terrible reputation in this kind of situation

That's good news. I would still clarify with them what they mean by "fixing" it. Is it really a new case or not?

I think it's great that they didn't question your care taking manners.
Teething pains with ceramic has perhaps surfaced other instances of this type.

Glad to hear AP is taking good care of it. Hope it gets resolve soon and you get your timepiece back. I am also curious to know what could have caused the crack.

Yeah it's great, even if I will get it only in 3 months, it will be ready mid August but I am coming to France only end of September, and I don't want them to ship it to Odessa

Well seeing where the crack is and that the rest of the watch is spotless it would have been hard ro question my responsability in the matter

Thanks Ben, yep I would really like to know but something tells me they will want to keep that part secret, IMO it's just a defective ceramic case, can't imagine any other explanation...

Well since you can't fix ceramic it can only be this, I will ask though but can't imagine anything else

Here you go, see the white thing between the rubber under the bezel and the crown guard, basically the most protected part of the case

Such an odd place for the crack to occur. Glad to hear that AP is taking care of the watch!

Of course, even if I was sure of my good right and that the watch didn't suffer any shock there was a possibility that they would say i did have some responsibility in it, which is clearly not the case, would still like to know how the most protected part of the case cracked, they were really surprised in the boutique when they saw this...

I am happy for you they are covering it but they way everyone feels ceramic is a great solution to avoid damage, I would like to know what caused the crack in the case.

Good news. Good to see AP takes 2 months to pop a movement into a new case!! Thought only PP was rubbish at service times!

Very easy to control as from the beginning they. Got that I couldn't have made the damage, where it's located it's 99.99% impossible

well if they don't have one in stock they need to make it, could explain the delay

Except from taking a super thin screwdriver, putting the tip there and hitting the handle with a hammer, or defective case I can't imagine anything other which could have done that

I'd be highly surprised if they didn't have a number of cases and bezels for the FC & Ceramic sitting in the spares drawer.
It wouldn't be cost effective to make them singley, as required — they'd make them in a batch.

How about a case that didn't crack?

.
Why a ceramic case anyway? What's the advantage?

Cracked ceramic case update

Having dealt with ceramics in my field, it could have originated from the hole in the case for the pusher. A micro crack could have developed during manufacturing and some kind of stress caused it to crack. This is only speculation.

Mine didn't crack...This is first one I have ever read about that had a flaw. AP makes amazing ceramic watches with superb brushed finishing. So why ceramic? Because it looks and feels amazing!

They are waiting for a less cracked one to arrive so they can recondition and use for Lapince!!
