How did you choose your second high end watch?

I thought it would be fun to start a thread on "how you choose your second high end watch?"

I am currently on the way of buying a second Rolex or even a Omega. The decision is much tougher than the first!

I was thinking the two-tone black sub but than find out about PCL issues with durability and bluesey is the way to go....

The second I am picking, is another subc! really, should i buy something a bit different?

So many questions goes through my mind right now... can't decide... I really think my first chance was way easier! Subc no date! I really enjoy wearing it...

Most people pair their sub with a white dial explorer 2 , Daytona, or datejust 2. I would also consider other dials on the datejust.

I wanted something w color. The pelagos always sang to me. Once the blue came out I knew I'd get it and I did.

First one was SS white 116520, second was DJ 36mm silver (gave it away), third was SubC Date (sold), fourth Omega SMP300M (daily beater), fifth was DayC white dial
Still debating GMT II BLNR or Black DaytonaC bc I want a black dial Rolex
All purchased approved from the wife after she got her DJ and Chanel bag. LOL.

So after my vintage Bubbleback helped me land a Manhattan trophy wife I decided I needed to get something modern to keep her interested and the Submariner was the obvious choice.

I traded my first into my third. A Panerai and a Rolex, and now a SD4K and a BLNR.

Second and subsequent watches needed to be different.
I'd need to have a dozen before I started 'doubling up' on models/styles.

SD4K then BLNR. Rational was based on if the second was not the right one then it would not be the last.

I bought my first Rolex (Datejust) because I had wanted one for a long time, as it reminded me of dad and his love of Rolex. My wedding was coming up, and I wanted it for that, as well as to have for passing down to kids one day.

Fast forward a couple of years, and I got the itch for another. I kept talking myself into it and out of it, and finally my wife said (knowing I don't wear the Datejust often - only for special occasions) "If you're going to wear it every day, why don't you just get one you like and quit thinking about it." I guess that was the kick in the pants I needed.

I'm actively searching the board for my next Rolex and I hope to have an incoming thread in the next few weeks, and it will be a no-date Submariner.

After those two, I may have to stay away from this board for a while, because you guys and gals are a bunch of enablers!!

Depending on how you wear the watch I would go with the Polar Explorer II, 42mm. Complements the sub and gives you a different dial. If you dress up more, then a DJ II and the dial options are great.

Once I joined here after my black subc I got seriously TRF-ed and bought a RG AP, still don't know how I managed to persuade my self to make such a big next jump.

My first was a WG Meteorite Daytona. Hard act to follow.

My second was a white dial Panerai. I was going for variety and strap changing fun.

I still think a Rolex/Panerai combo can be a nice 2 watch collection. Add a Speedy Pro for the perfect 3up combo.

I bought the first one from AD to put in safe.. When I had it in my hands I couldn't accept not wearing it and got another used from a private seller - since then the second one is my daily beater :-)

After five great years with my first Rolex, GMT IIc two tone, I had two requirements...

1. White dial. Love the clarity.
2. No cyclops. Hate it with a white-hot passion, just junks up the watch and adds more glare than magnification.

So white face milgauss.

Third will be a five digit reference in all 18k. Currently staring at dials and trying to figure out what speaks to me!!!

Well, I had been mulling over the idea of picking up a DJ to add to my Explorer, even though I had some concerns about their similarity.

Still the DJ is such an iconic model with its cyclops and all.

I don't like gold on my watches, so I was naturally steered toward the domed bezel models.

I liked the Oyster on my Explorer, but at the time the PCLs scared the hell out of me, especially on a previous trip to the AD. The salesperson handed me one and I refused to even touch it for fear of smudging it.

On the other hand, I'd never really warmed up to the Jubilee bracelet and the coronet on the Super Jubilee seemed like an accident waiting to happen.

Then one day i was in the AD and I spotted a DJ on jubilee with the black stick dial and the white gold fluted bezel.

I asked to try it on and I was mightily impressed, but I could not abide that fluted bezel, so I ordered one with the domed bezel and that was that.

I've been a big fan of the Super Jubilee ever since.

Logically, a new daytona c will work very well as my second Rolex but I am just not too into the looks right now (too busy) and zero discount... Also a huge wait... I am currently on the wait list for a black daytona c, just in case I change my mind :)

For whatever reason, the SMP is in my mind over Daytona. Doesn't make sense...

Lastly, still debating on subc two-tone black.

Decision decision...

So, my first Rolex was a SS Submariner... fast forward a few years, and I'm looking for an 'upgrade'. My brother was receiving his MBA so I gave him my SS Sub as a graduation gift (which he has to this day, almost 25 years later). Being without a Rolex, and wanting a little color/bling, I became infatuated with the TT Sub (Bluesy), and picked that up a my daily wearer.

My first was a Rolex Submariner Date; a gift from my parents. I had that for about a year until I began to feel the itch for a second piece. I was recently accepted to flight surgeon training at the time so I went into MacArthur Mall in Norfolk, VA and bought a two tone Breitling Navitimer with a white dial.
